A page from the scrapbook of Uncle Grumps girls, the Frump sisters. The girls have a photo of them as children having tea in the front garden and also of them in later years as proprietors of "The Tea Shoppe".
Ten years ago I went to England with my parents on a holiday to visit family. We went to a Tea Room near the Moors run by 2 old sisters. The place dated back to the 1400's. It had antique Victorian wicker furniture that had been repainted and the paint hadn't dried properly. Everything; teacups and pot, even your arms stuck slightly to the tacky tables. The 2 sisters also lived in the tea room and slept behind screens hiding their mattresses with at least 10 cats roaming around the room. They had washed their bloomers and the enormous things were hanging out on a line to dry. The sisters were very old and all the patrons were told to whisper as the one old gal was asleep in an easy chair behind the cash desk (snoring her lungs out). I must say the tea and cakes were delicious but after we were out of ear shot we laughed so hard we nearly passed out. This challenge with its old ladies and bloomers reminded me of a marvelous day spent with my parents.
