I have two or three of the cans from Stampin' Up! Punch Box kits that I use to store ribbons and accessories in. I thought it would be fun to paint it and decorate it with a simple holiday theme. It's a nice large can and is perfect to store my Christmas cards in that I make over the next few months playing in the challenges. It looks pretty on my counter as a decoration in my stamping area and is useful at the same time.
The can was originally turquoise and needed to be painted. I masked and taped off both the inside and outside of the clear see though window on the lid to protect from the spray paint. I used Krylon flat based paint and sprayed both the inside and outside of the can. It took a couple of coats to get a solid finish over the turquoise. I set the can aside and let it dry a day before working with it even though the directions said it would only take an hour or so. It is so humid here in Florida that I knew that wouldn't be the case. When the paint was totally dry I pulled off the window mask and had a lovely pure white can to work with.
I love outdoor tree and snow scenes and this can gave me a huge palette to work with. I used three different size tree images and stamped all the way around the can using Old Olive craft ink. I stamped one section at a time and then covered the images with clear embossing powder and heated. Hint: ....metal stays hot a while after heat embossing so it is advantageous to be PATIENT!!! Ouch! :o) The trees popped to life on the flat white background after being embossed. I added olive grosgrain ribbon to the rim of the can and finished with a multi loop bow in the center above the latch. The bow doesn't interfere with the lid closure. I toyed with the idea of embellishing the can with red ribbon but settled on the green as it is striking and yet perfectly simple.

I bet you were so thrilled on how this turned out! It is so beautiful......the white is so stark. That is what I would have been worried about, completely covering up the turquoise! What a wonderful little gift item with your cute little cards tucked inside! I love it! Very creative and fun!

This is absolutely amazing Kittie, I absolutely love it! I sold all my kits, but this sure is giving me ideas with other tins. I never thought to spray paint with Krylon.

My oh MY! This is one gorgeous "formerly turquoise" can! Totally transformed into a beautiful & functional accent! I can just imagine the caution one must remember when embossing on metal!
