Here is another card I made for Taylored Expressions sketch challenge. (Yep, I REALLY want to try to win that pet set! LOL!) I actually made this one before the golf one. It also uses the Boys Will Be Boys set. I tried to make it look recycled and rustic and think it will also make another good masculine birthday card.
I cut a piece of actual newspaper (which was very tricky since it is so delicate), crinkled it up and tapped it with the Chocolate Chip ink pad. The scalloped strip at the bottom was cut from kraft cardstock and then run through a crimper and patted with the chocolate chip ink pad again. the ribbon that reminds of me steam coming from coffee (similar to the coffee cup in Taylor's illustration) was substituted for the second scalloped layer in Taylor's sketch.
I stamped the image with Chocolate Chip ink onto very vanilla cardstock and sponged the edges with some Close to Cocoa ink (Chocolate Chip was a little too dark). I took some linen thread and wrapped it around the newspaper section several times, which substituted for a vertical strip in the sketch, and attached the circle over it with dimensionals, and stamped the sentiment on the side.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my card.

This is a really cool card, Meredith! I love all of the shades of brown and cream. You made great use of the sketch, too! The bit of distressed newspaper you used looks terrific. It ties in nicely with your stamped image! And it looks super with the crimped scallop-edge strip, too. A wonderful masculine card
