I just love this movie - one of my favorites of all time. It brings out so many emotions - I cry EVERY time I watch it. Raise your hand if you have seen it. I chose The Color Purple for the theme of "Banned Books." More info on the swap here: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
This Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Alice Walker was turned into a movie for the big screen directed by Steven Spielberg. The Color Purple shares the record for the most Academy Award nominations without a single win. - Perhaps the biggest Oscar snub in the history of the Academy Awards. It went on to become one of the biggest grossing films of 1985-86. Who can forget the outstanding performances of Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey? - to name a few. Celie tells her story through her letters to God. She and her sister, Nettie, have been separated and have not seen each other in years. Nettie has been sending letters to Celie never to hear a word from her. Celie's abusive husband has been hiding those letters from her for 30 years. - - until... one day...with the help from Shug Avery, she finds them. So if you know the story, you can understand the importance of those letters.
I hope you enjoy my attempt at the story in Twinchie form. The seed beads are strung on wire that is adheared on the back. (There is also a photo showing the back side as well if you are interested.) I found the image on the internet. I protected it with Micro-Glaze and buffed it out. I made tiny little envelopes and bound them together as shown in the movie. I used my Martha Stewart scoring board to make it a little easier to fold them. The letters are from sister Nettie to Celie. The tiny postage stamps are images from 1930's African postage.
If this movie is also a favorite of yours, please feel free to share your thoughts. I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for stopping by.

I just watched this movie again last week, I too always cry. When I was in high school the movie was filmed in my hometown, so I have an extra connection to the story. It is such a great story, an inspiration to all women. I have been singing this song since I watched the movie, hope you enjoy:
Sister, you've been on my mind
Sister, we're two of a kind
So Sister, I'm keeping my eyes on you
I betcha think I don't know nothin'
But singin' the blues
Oh Sister, have I got news for you
I'm somethin'
I hope you think that you're somethin' too
Scufflin' I been up that lonesome road
And I seen a lot of suns goin' down
Oh, but trust me
No low life's gonna run me around
So let me tell you somethin' Sister
Remember your name
No twister, gonna steal your stuff away
My sister, sho' ain't got a whole lot of time
So shake your shimmy, Sister
'Cause honey this shug is feelin' fine

I read the book many many years ago when it first came out, and it broke my heart and thrilled me and made me angry and made me laught out loud and caused every emotion to come to the surface. I thought the movie was pretty true to the book, and every time it comes on TV I watch it again. And get angry and cry.......
Your twinchie is PERFECT and really brings out the main part of the story. The letters make it so real. You should be very proud of yourself.
