I first stamp the sailboat scene, using Versa Mark from the refill bottle and small paint brush, fill in all the areas you want the ink to resist and stay white. It has to go one fairly heavy, you see the edges have some yellow which is fine; it looks as if the sails are reflecting the sun. Add extra color (orange here) with a paint brush and ink from the pad lid. I sort of pound it lightly on the card and then drag that across until it blends well.
I then inked up the brayer with yellow and add shades of darker yellow and orange to the brayer. I just roll the brayer while itÂ’s upside down with the ink pad against it. Now cover the card and continue to go back and forth raising the brayer off the surface so it spins to avoid leaving marks. Spinning is a very important step! Then stamp on the trees.
Tip: if you think the paint brush and VM ink sounds to hard just use crayon resist. I did that on my Halloween card with lightening.
I got this idea from a Webshots photo but it had palm trees and I live in Michigan – the great lakes state and those trees on in the stamp scene are what we see here. We’re working on importing Palm trees but that may take some more global warming!
