Choosing a bird wasn't the problem today - I even got a whole new set of bird stamps today. But I thought the challenge was a good time to actually use one of the little Maya Road sheer owls One4Joy sent me - thanks, Susan .
When Borders here went bust, I bought quite a lot in their half-price sale - including a replacement for a very old, very battered 1930-something edition of a P G Wodehouse book. So now I have a whole book to tear apart to my heart's content. Today I decided to do some gesso resist to make a background for my little owl. After the gesso was dry, I stamped the branch and leaves from Basic Grey's Grow-a-Garden, and embossed. Then I sponged the page with distress inks, tore to shape and sponged the edges. Layered onto Bazzill, tore and sponged the edges. Stamped an Inkadinkado sentiment and added the little owl. I popped the whole panel up on foam tape on a 5 3/4" square background of Magenta's Garden Friends, with stitching lines added around the edges. I'll just have to bring my machine up to the attic, I think.
Great challenge, Julia - I could make bird cards all day long if I only had nothing else to do.

Love that owl!!! I really like the effect you got with your gesso resist background and the vintage text. That looks amazing!! I'll have to keep in mind that idea for deconstructed a battered old book. Such a fun card. Nicely done, Sabrina!
