I made this for my husband for our anniversary (which is tomorrow!). I bought this clear dollar stamp set with the main purpose of making something for him since he loves ships.
I stamped the ship about 5 times onto watercolor paper, and colored with prismacolor pencils and baby oil (peach beige for the sails, sienna brown for the ship, and slate gray for the ocean). I cut out different sails from each image so I could build them up for a 3-D effect. (Does anyone have any suggestions on cutting out those rope lines? I broke two while cutting since they were so skinny.) I then used some khaki thread and a needle to mimic the rope lines (you can see it better in the close up). It is on popdots.
The frame I found at Home Goods for $6. It did have a bottom rope, but I cut it off.
The quote I found from Wonderful Graffiti. (Check out the photo album and the quote page for some wonderful ideas!) It reads:
"I knew when I met you an adventure was going to happen.
-a.a. milne"
I printed it in bolded "Freebooter" font (free from dafont.com) in brown onto PTI Spring Rain (I think?) paper and cut it out using Nestabilities Label 1, then just cut straight across the top & bottom. I bordered it using Not Quite Navy cut with the next size up label. It is attached with popdots.
Whew, that was a lot of information! Hope you (and my DH) like it!

THIS - IS - AWESOME! Such a perfect saying - I love it!! And I LOVE how you layered all those sails for that realistic effect. And the frame was PERFECT for this project too (don't you love it when that happens? ;) ) How could your hubby NOT love this?!! Happy belated anniversary!

I've been following the slow cardmaker thread. Thought I'd look to see what wonderful results the slow cardmakers can achieve. This is awesome! My Husband loves ships too. The only advise I can give you about cutting out images is that I try to cut all of the insides out first before cutting around the image itself. The way those ropes are it looks really tricky though. You might try cutting at a 45 degree angle from the inside corners. Kind of make an X inside each of the areas you are going to cut out with the exacto knife before you cut it out. Maybe you could try several light passes with the blade rather than cutting it all in one pass too. Just suggestions, mind you since I've never cut this one out myself.
