This entire image, including the background, was colored with Copic markers. For the background, I used three different shades of aqua and a colorless blender. First, I colored the entire area with the lighter shade. Then, I blended in the medium color around the flower image. Next, I did a sort of reverse Van Gogh thing...I used the colorless blender in short stokes and stippling to mottle the colors. I also went over the outer edges pretty heavily with colorless blender to fade them a bit. Finally, I added stippling with the three shades of aqua near and around the flower image.

Your background is really nice -- did you splatter it with water to get the bleached out effect, or did you use a different marker? Its very effective.
