Hi! This card was made for today's Ways to Use It Challenge: Basic Black. Participants were to use Basic Black Cardstock. We could add another color of card stock. I chose to add Oatmeal Fleck.
Now, I have to admit, I DON'T LIKE THE BEACH...I don't like sand, sea spray, sea creatures, walking on sand, riding bikes on sand, body surfing, getting bitten by fish, stung by jellyfish or having a limb torn off by a shark. Nope...These are just SOME of the reasons I don't like the beach!
However....I LOVE beach scenes! Crazy, right? Well...I wanted to make a scene using Sepia tones...ALL The paper started out as OATMEAL FLECK or BASIC BLACK! The second layer was SPONGED with Creamy Caramel and More Mustard to get that color. To create the scene I cut the Nestie first and stamped the sea grasses, bird and sentiment in Basic Black. Next, the shovel/bucket/sand was stamped in VersaMark and embossed in white on black and cut out. The same image was stamped in black onto Oatmeal. The sand was colored in with a SU! Creamy Caramel marker and cut out. The pieces were layered together.
The crab is a Martha Stewart punch. I punched him out of Oatmeal Fleck and sponged him with Creamy Caramel and Basic Black. Next, I addd Signo Pen dots to him for eyes and spots.

Look at that knobbly looking crab - just perfect. The only ones I ever caught were smooth, but there were knobbly ones on the wall in one house we holidayed in.

Faith, this is just wonderful. It reminds me of my childhood days down the shore. My brother and I were in the water or on the beach all day long. I love the sepia tones - oldies, but goodies, just like me. tfs

Hi Faith! It's been a while since I've visited your cards & gallery. This is a sweet beach scene and I love how you incorporated black as an undertone on this. That MS Crab Punch is a must have, now that I've seen how cute you've made him! Great card!
