This week, the MFT Idol challenge was to make (gasp!) JUST a card. The contestants have been pulling out all the stops and altering and creating all kinds of fun objects, so it was hard to pull back and work on a smaller scale this week. As an added challenge, we had to use one specific stamp set, Build a Bouquet, to create our card. It's an older set and one I hadn't owned yet. Kim, the owner of MFT Stamps, was so sweet and gifted it to all the contestants.
If you've seen the BAB set, you'll see that the possibilities are endless with this set! There are so many different shapes and flowers that it was hard to decide what to do! Early on, though, I decided that I wanted to create something out of the various circles, only, because I think that these are the kind of stamps that no one ever thinks they need. I'd imagine people would buy the set for the cool flower images and maybe just use the circles as accents. This time around, I wanted to make the circles the stars of this show!
To create the poppies, I stamped the various sized circles on cream cardstock. I wanted the flowers to match the paper as closely as possible, so I sometimes had to stamp one color on top of another to "create" the right color. Luckily, clear stamps make this so easy, because you can see exactly where you're setting your image down! I then cut out the circles, leaving a thin border of cream around them, so they'd stand out a little, crumpled them up in my hand for more of a realistic and rustic look, and assembled them together with a white brad. The leaves are also from the Build a Bouquet set, and I did the same with them (stamped them on cream, cut them out leaving a thin cream border, and crumpled them).
To make the card, I folded the DP back on itself several times to create some interesting dimension. I added a ribbon and button accent and a strip of lace that I colored with my copics to "antique" it a bit. I then paper-pierced the underlayer and adhered it all to a taupe cardstock base. I popped on my flowers and letters (the letters were from my mom's stash!), and I was good to go!
