OK all of my SCS friends!!!!! This is my first time coloring with Prismacolor pencils, Baby oil and stumps. I am NOT pleased with the results, so please give me some tips, if you will. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I have read the Gamsol tutorial over and over and maybe I'm missing a step or something.
Thanks so much for looking!!
What do you think?

I think you did a great job colorin'! Great card. Love the birds in the sand too. I've never used baby oil, only OMS, so I can't offer any tips. Just a ques., tho, if lighter image is the look you were shootin' for, then please ignore. I use Versafine onyx black on most images and V. sepia brown on some images. This is a good, true, black black. It doesn't bleed nor smear when colorin'. It lasts almost forever therefore they don't have a reinker. Michael's w/ coupon!
You could try a *lighter hand* in colorin' the sky to get a good contrast from the water. Perhaps leave a few areas white. If you're interested, here is Cindy's aka Mothermark tut. for clouds. They're cute. Scroll down about halfway, clouds w/ angels card. These are just suggestions and, God knows, not meant to hurt your feelings in any way. I'm still learning myself!!! This is a great card! Keep on colorin' and show us more!!! TFS! May God bless, Sandi

love the image, Lesley and kuddos to you for going with such a large image your first time out in the boat!!! You know that ole saying, practice makes perfect! I've stuck to small images and laying on the color lightly and then going over with the oil. Sandy's tip about leaving areas of white was a good one too!

Yep, I go with all of the above and say what a courageous thing to do. I mean the big sky like that, I could not even dream about doing that, so I say; MORE POWER TO YOU GIRL.
Love your little seagulls and the image is very pretty along with your coloring, I tried prismacolors with baby oil and really didn't add much because I was afraid of messing the whole thing up. You did pretty good there my friend. TFS

You have done great work here Lesley!! Really lovely colouring!!! And a wonderful image!! One bit of information that really helped me when I first started with gamsol and prismacolours was finding out that the type of paper that you use really matters big time!! I was told to try using Stampin Up Whisper White - because it has a slight coating on it, so the colour slides around a little easier than it does on regular paper. I found that was a huge huge help to me - changing to SU paper! That said - getting a large area like the blue perfectly smooth - I could never do that !!
Your card is just lovely! Great job Lesley - I know how much work that colouring is!!!

I think you did a great job with this Lesley! I ditto all the above. I have trouble with large areas too... I'd sponge the sky. My first attempt at Prisma pencils I thought I had bought their watercolors and tried to watercolor with them... turned out I hadn't gotten the H2O's so I had to go find OFM! Dawn likes to use goo gone instead of OFM. Just play around... you'll get your favorite style! Trust me.... to do an image this well first time out... you'll do great!!!

Beautiful card Lesley and you did great at coloring. What works for me is to use 2 colors. Like if I'm coloring grass, I lay down the lighter color first and color where I want to with that, then I take the darker green and outline and blend in. I hope that made sense. You can do the same with one color too by just using it to outline and blend in.
