I read about these on the "what are you making for Valentine's day" thread. I wanted to do something for my daughter's preschool class that didn't involve candy. I had bought crayons from Oriental Trading last fall and they worked well.
I bought a silicone heart mold from Michaels. I was able to melt 12 hearts at a time.
My fear was that a child would think it was food and try to eat it, so I wanted to include some coloring pages. I printed some Valentine coloring images from online and made up a 3 x 3.5 inch coloring book.

Thanks for looking!

I love it ! I wanted to make these too but the price for a metal pan was a bit too steep for me. I didn't know you could use the silicone. Do you think the ice cube trays from ikea would work, they're heart shaped? How did you melt the crayons? Check out family fun magazines website. Nice job!
It is really hard to come up with non candy but still good stuff for pschoolers.

This is the best idea ever! I can't wait to do something like this for my kids at the daycare! How did you melt the crayons? I have such a hard time coming up with idea for my toddlers that isn't food related! Thanks so much for the idea!

I just made these for the kids in my son's daycare for Valentine's Day. The silicone pan worked great and my son had fun filling up the hearts with broken crayons. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
