This is the card I made for today's IC.
Like the Don Li Leger one, I think DH spent more time looking through it than I did. We have a lot of Japanese papers and prints here, and at first I could see loads of inspiration using designs similar to papers we have. But the problem is, those designs are so strong that it's hard to do anything with them.
So in the end I used this piece here - http://wuhaonyc.com/catalog/images/b...allow_may2.jpg as my inspiration. It suited my current minimalist mode very well ;D.
I'm not used to stamping much on coloured card so I had to experiment a bit, and I wasn't prepared to spend ages carefully colouring the flowers white, so I did stamp them separately and cut them out.
The base is a caramel brown card, to match the fence. Then some blue card, on which I stamped directly the swallow from Carte Postale, and branches and leaves from BG Grow-a-Garden. I used two greens for some of the leaves, and just lined them up as well as I could, as I felt it gave a sense of the wind blowing the leaves when they weren't exactly matching. I stamped the flowers separately and cut them out. I had to paint the swallow's breast with a bit of white paint before I could colour it red.
I am sure there is some significance in the fact that there were 2 swallows, 2 flowers, 2 branches. But I only had one suitable swallow, so that was that...and it goes against what I feel is normal, which is to have an odd number of things, like 3 or 5 flowers.
After that I just printed a verse out on the PC, using Samurai font, and added it.
See, I said it was minimalist.

Beautiful! The bird from Carte Postale really does have an Asian feel to it when you pair it with the flowered vine. Nice sentiment too. I'm glad we chose different inspiration pieces this week!
