I made this card for Frenchy's FFIF10 - http://frenchysstampinblog.blogspot....neak-peek.html. This week she didn't post up a picture but the challenge was how does Christmas inspire you.
I like the cooking preparations - mince pies especially. I can eat 6 at a go.
But I love decorating the tree and always have. As kids the tree became the centre of our play for a couple of weeks, as we played with the decorations and the smaller of our toys in the tree. We'd make little nests inside upside-down bells for the smallest toys, and argue over who got the favourite decorations to play with.
Our first Christmas after we were married DH had lost his job in November and we were pretty broke. I bought just one pack of pretty brass ornaments and knit a whole load of little snowmen. I still put those snowmen up every year, even though we now have quite a respectable collection of decorations.
So that was the story behind this card. I had the pine photo paper on my desk from yesterday's LSC challenge, and I have been meaning to try out the stained glass glitter for a while. I've done it before, but not for a couple of years, so it was nice to be reminded of it when Beate posted up the tutorial recently. And she has it the way I like it, with the glitter at the back of the acetate. The magazine article I first found it in had the glitter at the front, so none of the stamped image showed. I didn't like that at all, and always put my glitter at the back.
The base is Basic Grey Fruitcake, and for the Blintz Base topper I lined it with the pine paper so it would look like a decoration hanging in the tree. I used red eyelets along each side, and mounted it diagonally on a square card using the reverse side of the BG, embossed with D'vine Swirl. I added photo corners and a red snap in each corner. The stained glass technique can be found in the Resources section. I used a Stampendous bauble stamp, and although it's well stuck down round the edges with tape, I stuck a tiny red brad through to hang it on the tree.
TFL, and I'll try to take a better daylight picture without my beautiful cutting mat!! My other picture didn't show off the glitter so well, even if the background looked better, LOL.

What a story, Sabrina! Funny how we can look back on some of the worst days of our lives and now find such joy in some of those tragedys. Your card is so perfect. Each one of your cards gets more imaginative and creative! This card is just fabulous with that single ornament and those gorgeous papers. Really, really neat card, my friend.
