I made this card for the November VSN, “Cabaret”. Hostess Jacqueline used "La Cage Aux Folles" and the characters’ gender identification issues as her inspiration for this challenge.
She directed us to make a masculine card but to include on at least two traditionally feminine components – things we would ordinarily avoid, She emphasized that the feminine aspect must be obvious but not so much so that it would detract from the masculine nature of the card.
I made two very similar cards and incorporated the requirements of the challenge into one of them. One card is comfortably masculine. The animal prominently featured on the background paper is a lion on his haunches, roaring (upper left corner).
The other card uses the same colors and even the same paper, but definitely has more “feminine” associated accessories and elements, although I designed it as a card for a man. That card has a large butterfly as the most prominent image on the background paper (right upper corner). I also added a much wider and softer (more feminine) organza ribbon and bow and attached a butterfly charm to the bow.
Interestingly, when some friends dropped by earlier today, I asked the gentleman which of the two cards he preferred and he chose the one with the “feminine” bow and butterflies.
