This is for IC149 and Mizue Hirano's site was full of inspiration. Here is a link to the watercolor that inspired my contemporary winter tree and snow. http://www.mizue.info/watercolors/wa_01.html
I make absolutely no claims to understanding modern abstract art. I was intrigued by Misue's use of colors even though I have to admit I'm not sure I *get* it. I wanted to do something modern and whimsical but that still had a bit of a traditional feel to it. I loved the color combination of the seafoam blue and pale green that she used in my inspiration piece. There isn't much to tell on how I did this piece. I sprayed watercolor paper until it was really wet and let the paper absorb the water but not dry. I used medium brush to watercolor the evergreen and then a tiny brush to add the circle snowflakes. I added a few blue lines to the tree as well to add a little depth. I couldn't resist adding the tradtional stars to the tree for decoration. They were cut with my cuttlebug snowflake die. This really took me out of my tradtional comfort zone but I like the uncomfortable feeling I got even though I did not go totally abstract. It is fun to stretch and I can easily laugh at myself and this strange piece.

It's beautiful, Kittie! I love the colors and how you made yourself go out of your comfort zone with the coloring around the tree. Very *art-treeeee-tistic!
