I made this card for the Featured Stamper challenge, FS85. Congratulations, Shannon, on being chosen as the featured stamper this week. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting ShannonÂ’s gallery and blog.
This was a pretty significant challenge for me. Shannon uses a lot of cartoon type images and her cards have the most adorable characters on them! IÂ’m still very new to stamping and my stamp collection, although itÂ’s growing, is still pretty paltry. I donÂ’t have any cutesy cartoony type stamps. (But I have a bunch on my wish list after visiting ShannonÂ’s gallery!)
Even though she also has several truly lovely “floral” and “serious” cards in her gallery that are not unlike the cards I normally make, I thought it would be a much better tribute to Shannon and more of a challenge for me to make a card that is more in keeping with her usual style – cute, upbeat, and fun! I had to really stretch for this one – it was waaaay out of my comfort zone!
I chose to case her “Froggie and Friends”, which you can see here:
What I changed: I kept the theme, “Frog and Friends”. I don’t have her stamp set; my frog prince is part of a set of fairy stamps, so for this card, his friends are fairies and elves. One of the little elves is perched on a toadstool, so that another similarity in our otherwise very different stamp sets.
ShannonÂ’s card was made for a sketch challenge so I kept the sketch layout basically the same although slightly more rectangular, necessitated by the shape of my stamps. And because my card is rectangular, I added a greeting at the bottom. She used light blue, pink, peach, and olive green for mounting and matting her images. I stayed with these colors as the primary colors of my card but used a different combination to mount the images.
This was actually a very “fun” card to make. I found myself smiling as all of my little fairies and elves came to life. Thanks, Shannon, for being my inspiration today. This card has also been a lot of watercolor practice for me. I painted each of the images using watercolor pencil, and had to use a magnifier, since the images are so small yet so detailed.
