I made this card for Inspiration Challenge IC146. For this challenge we were referred to Mondo Dishes by Rosanna, Inc., a line of dishware and accessories designed by Rosanna Bowles. What a wonderful choice for inspiration! I found several collections I would love to have in my home, never mind my card collection, and I chose several different collections as inspiration for cards. This card was inspired by the “La Petite Black Dress” collection. Black and white is one of my favorite color combinations to work with, and dresses, one of my favorite images.
For this card, I CASED one of my own favorite sets of cards which I made for another CASE challenge a few weeks ago. I used the pattern for the dress that I used for my “Wedding Bouquet” set of note cards. I cut the dress from a piece of black paper that I stamped and embossed with black ink and iridescent embossing powder using an ornate floral flourish. The iridescent embossing powder has a blue sparkle to it so I added a small piece of blue ribbon with some black flowers and blue rhinestones. The flowers were punched from black paper, then inked over with black ink, coated with iridescent powder, and heat treated.
I made a cloche, which I decorated with flowers, rhinestones, and a feather. I drew and cut the hat freehand from a piece of the same embellished black paper. The feather was trimmed, shaped and curled. I added the same flowers and rhinestones I used to decorate the dress.
I lacked a dress form, but fashioned one from a stamp. One of the stamps in the “Love Letters” collection is a frame that has end caps that remind me of the base of a clothing valet. I stamped the end of this frame onto one end of a thin strip of black paper, then embossed the entire thing with black ink and iridescent powder. With another small flourish added in to hold the dress hanger, I was able to create a dress and hat stand.
The card itself was made from black textured card stock. This card stock has a white core so the edges were brushed with black ink after the card was cut and folded. The design was mounted on a mat of embossed white card stock and fastened to the card with back brads and my favorite ornate corners which were inked with black ink, coated with iridescent powder, and heat treated until they gleamed and had a leathery texture.
