A lady asked me to make this as a 'Thank You' - for her daughter.
The blue iris is (mum's) flower and so represents her.
I had to study a lot of blue iris. Played with paper for a while till I'd worked out how to make the flowers, then made a template to follow.
The flowers are each made from three pieces of lightweight card (white), painted and layered together. I applied amber gemstone highlights then attached the iris to acetate strips and fixed into the panels of the box.
These boxes are small - they fit comfortably in the palm of your hand.

This is amazingly beautiful!!! I was sitting here studying it, mouth hanging open possibly drooling, when my 4 y.o. son came up and asked me what it was. When I told him, he sat here for a minute and then asked me why there were monsters popping out of the box and could I please make him one with monsters too. Monsters?!! Apparently to his little boy brain, the iris (especially the one at the very top and right in this picture) looks like a mouth and eyes!
