I am finally back with a new Ways to Use It Challenge. Thanks so much, Beth, for posting last weeks. Thanks also to everyone who participated. I am looking forward to getting some time and looking at your cards and ideas from last week.

This week's challenge is Background Stamps. I actually used to hate these stamps as at first I found it difficult to get a good impression with them. If you do a search in the forums you will find some really great threads with tips on using these stamps.

Background stamps are great for adding texture and interest to your cards. I also like to use them for tinting or shading the cardstock to a slightly different hue or tint by using a darker ink, a white craft ink or a different color altogether. Background stamps are also great with versamark, embossing, pastels, markers, "kissing" and just about anything else you can think of. Can't wait to see what you can come up with!

Please remember to put WT12 in the keyword section and post a link back here so we can all see your beautiful work.

Have a great week,

PS For those of you who are interested in my new little Joshua, we are both doing well. He is a very calm baby and slept 6 hours straight the past two nights in a row. He has dark brown hair and dark blue eyes and weighed 8 lbs. 9 ozs at birth. Most of you have probably already seen these pics but I just couldn't resist sharing our little miracle with those of you who hadn't. :)

You baby boy is adorable! Congrats! I was just thinking a couple of days ago that I hadn't used my background stamps in a while and how it would make a good Way to use it challenge. You read my mind. :)

jsbrooketrout 06-09-2005 12:34 PM

Congrats on your beautiful baby boy! I can never get over what a miracle our babies are!!

And thanks for a great challenge! I just got several new background stamps that I am going CRAZY with. Here's one I just posted earlier today. I also did several others... but I'll just post one for now!

God Bless you little one!!

Pinky 06-09-2005 12:39 PM

Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby boy, Joshua. He is absolutely a beautiful baby. I know your other little one is happy as well. How old is he? He looks like a baby himself.

I cannot believe you are posting the challenges so soon. I love bg stamping, so this will be much fun. Thanks and I will make some tonight.

STAMPINSTEL 06-09-2005 01:03 PM

Congrats on the arrival of Joshua , both of the children are adorable !

I think I may just try this challenge , it will be the first time I joined this one .

auntie65 06-09-2005 01:44 PM

Julia, Congrats on the new little guy, and what a handsome pair you have there!
Glad you are back to challenge us, and thanks to Beth for keeping it going!

rsdreyer 06-09-2005 02:02 PM

Julia, God has truly blessed you with yet again another beautiful baby!! Congratulations!!!

Julia S 06-09-2005 02:19 PM

Thanks so much for all your kind wishes. I actually have 5 children now...didn't think you wanted to see that many attachments! :) My older three are James 14, Heather 12, and David 10. Benjamin is 2.5 years old. We are really enjoying all the different ages and the older kids are a great help and love their little brothers.

Also, for this challenge I was wondering if anyone had the simple stripes background stamp. I had an idea the other day I would like to see if it works and I don't have the stamp. Let me know if you are interested in trying it out for me. :)

dpierstamper 06-09-2005 03:23 PM

I used my stipple plaid background stamp and combined this with the card sketch from yesterday to create this card. Hope you enjoy. Deb

Julia S 06-09-2005 04:10 PM

Here is a card I made today for both this week's and last week's challenges

wyokat 06-09-2005 04:12 PM

I can't believe you are stamping and posting already (and with FIVE kids). How inadequate am I--only 3 and nearly grown and I'm lucky to make a hand ful of cards a week!

Congratulations on your beautiful baby and welcome back!

gsmith76 06-09-2005 04:40 PM

I'm not sure about this one, but here's my try

evelky 06-09-2005 06:40 PM

Here's mine! I am actually really pleased the way it turned out. I don't usually use vellum so this was new for me.

Here is the link to my card for this challenge :

Michelerey 06-09-2005 09:37 PM

Here's one I got done that I think fits this challenge. We are considering Fresh Fillers, Background Basics, Itty Bitty Backgrounds, etc. to be background stamps, right? I hope so! Anyway, it also fits the sketch challenge for this week.

mamakimberly 06-09-2005 09:39 PM

The pic of your two babies is just TOOOOOOOO sweet!!!!!!!!!! What a doll!!!

I am having baby lust! Help!

Jami 06-09-2005 11:23 PM

Julia - so happy to have you back and to see your adorable little one.

I LOVE BG stamps and it seems like I use them in almost every card. I just uploaded a card a few minutes ago and then came to read this challenge...so I didn't get the code in the keywords, but here it is

rsdreyer 06-10-2005 04:43 AM

Here is one I did for the Tech challenge:

kellykk 06-10-2005 04:54 AM

Here's my link. Just got Paisley Print BG and In Full Bloom and this was my first card with both.

Background stamp
HI! Am going to enjoy checking out all of these ideas.

I don't want to hijack but maybe someone here can help me.

Does anyone have a solid background stamp (from B & J's Art Stamps) - it is about 3.5 x 4.5, kind of an irregular edged - more of an oval than a circle. I bought it at an expo where there were great samples - many with southwestern stamp images over this background. But know I am totally clueless as to how I can use it. (The company has a web site but I could not locate samples.)
Anyway, maybe someone will post a sample here.

Thanks - I keep saying this, but thanks for all the ideas.

wyokat 06-10-2005 10:15 AM

I'm sure the ldies here will be full of wonderful ideas for you--

maybe you could stamp the image on a sheet of paper and post it--

so much easier to gather ideas that way.

AND now back to our regularly scheduled programming:)

jacksonbelle 06-10-2005 11:12 AM

Congrats Julia! He looks like an angel!! Finally got time to play! Here is my card!

jen9853 06-10-2005 02:14 PM

Here's mine:

Still pending as of 5:19pm EST Friday.

It was Julia's idea, took the Simple Stripes background, stamped once, inked w/ a different colour, turned 90 degrees and stamped again to get a plaid! Thanks for the idea Julia!

I love BG stamps, use them all the time!!

CardFanatic 06-10-2005 06:18 PM

Here's mine.

(Still pending at 9:15 EST)

rosowskimom 06-10-2005 07:37 PM

Here is my card. I was so excited to share it yesterday and my computer pooped out! My inspiration was Julia's cute & cuddly baby boy!

inkmonkey6 06-11-2005 01:57 AM

This is my attempt. It's kind of plainer than I like in a card, but I love the background.

wyokat 06-11-2005 02:34 PM

I've been inside all day waiting out Tropical Storm Arlene, so I got to do some stamping!

Here is my entry for this week:

Thanks for the challenge!

ADK 06-11-2005 02:39 PM

Here is mine, I hope is qualifies. I did whirly twirly (oops, made a mistake on the actual upload page, said it was swirls & blossoms) on the background, I don't have thelarge background stamp...

Granny Hawkins 06-11-2005 03:10 PM

I guess I kinda "cheated" on this one. I made it today at Stamp-A-Stack. I am sure it was cased or tweeked from here so thank you to the original poster.

I'm gonna try this link again.

Now see if this one works.

mcpaige 06-11-2005 03:46 PM

Bummer, I have no background stamps...
Hmmm, I guess that is what I need to consider purchasing next... but how in the world to choose!?!?!

This challenge might help me decide... these are all looking great!

wyokat 06-11-2005 06:16 PM

Here's one in my gallery (from a while back). This is one of my favorite cards using a background stamp.

rsdreyer 06-11-2005 06:35 PM

Here are some that I had in my gallery:

As you can see I really like the canvas and French script backgrounds the best.

WordTrix 06-11-2005 10:16 PM

Two cards for me, both combining four challenges in one:

Tampersay 06-12-2005 07:31 AM

I finally got some time this weekend (thanks to TS Arlene) to do some stamping. Here are two submissions for this challenge:

This was fun. I also worked on another one that wasn't really a bg stamp, but I used as a background technique:

wyokat 06-13-2005 06:29 PM

Here's a card I did really trying to take the "Cahllenge" and use background stamps as something other than background stamps.

Sure was a lot of work!

Julia S 06-14-2005 10:58 AM

A simple card I just made using Irridescent ice on my new Soft Swirls stamp.

Julia S 06-14-2005 01:09 PM
