Way way back in 1838, this was Coronation Day for Queen Victoria. Having decided that the traditional St. Edward's crown was too heavy, she was crowned with a new Imperial State Crown made for her by the Crown Jewellers (Rundell and Bridge), with 3,093 gems, including the Black Prince's Ruby set on the front cross patte; the cross at the top was set with a stone known as St. Edward's Sapphire, a sapphire taken from the ring (or possibly coronet) of Edward the Confessor. All its stones have been removed, and the empty gold frame is on display in the Martin Tower in the Tower of London. Looking at the drawing of it below, I think her new crown still must have been pretty heavy!!
So I thought that today we would feature crowns on our cards - or if you prefer, kings, queens, princes or princesses.
As an alternative, since the old pre-decimal British currency included sovereigns and crowns, you have the choice of using money if you like - a spinner card with a couple of pennies, dollar bill origami...
When your cardmaking session has been crowned with success, upload your creation with the keyword WT694, and then come back and share a link here - that makes it easy for people to find your card , and the hostesses really appreciate it.
If you're not sure how to add a link, here's how: 1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one for your card in the gallery, and one for this thread 2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link. 3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on) 4. Click EDIT. Click COPY 5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
Many thanks as always to the rest of the team for coming up with these inspiring samples: Lisa, Cathy, Toni and Carla have some great crowns.
Learned quite a bit about this crown from your posting Sabrina. I have no way of doing the challenge though. I went through the stamps I brought back to NY and not one fits the challenge. I will do it later though because a good portion of my stash will arrive this weekend and I know I have just the ticket packed in that stash.
Great challenge Sabrina! I have been watching the Merlin television series, so that was the inspiration for my gate fold card. Mimicked the castle walls with some dry embossing, and used a fanciful sentiment and castle image from the internet. Blue background is done with watercolor powders. Tied my card closed with a fleur de lis style fabric strip. Here's Fairy Tale Princessand Fairy Tale Princess-inside
