Title: The Puzzle
Hostess: Charlsanne (cla616)
Keyword: NOV10VSBNF
Day/Date: Friday / November 5, 2010
Time: 9:00 PM (EST)
As soon as I saw the theme, On Cloud 9, the number person in me only saw the 9 and I immediately thought of Sudoku, and how I could incorporate Sudoku into a Scrapbook challenge. Let me tell you it wasnt easy, but when I started to think of the different components of a Sudoku board it all came together. We are going to layout just one of the grids of the Sudoku board.
Sudoku boards are comprised of multiple squares ~ The most common board is the 3x3, with 9 total squares. So I want you to incorporate 9 pictures, and as many squares on your page as possible.
Any Sudoku puzzle I have ever seen is in black and white ~ For the next part of the challenge, I want your layout, including your pictures, to be in black and white (or Sepia).
Suduko Grids do not show the numbers in any particular sequence ~ Now for The Puzzle part, do not put your pictures in any particular order, just like on a Sudoku board the numbers are placed so that in the entire scheme of things the number is only used 1 time in any row or column and grid
Sudoku is comprised only of numbers ~ So make sure you have at least 1 number on your layout.
There are many variations of Sudoku ~ So for the last part of the challenge, add in just a smidge of blue to break away from the traditional and to remind us of the clouds and sky above us. (I know, the blue really has nothing to do with Sudoku, but I thought it would be a nice break in your layout while also incorporating the theme of VSBN ON CLOUD 9.
Feel free to use my layout as your sketch if that is what works best for you, or just go for it. You can do a single page spread or double page in order to incorporate those 9 pictures.
And in a nutshell your page must have the following components: 1. 9 Pictures
2. Pictures are not put in chronological order
3. Black and White (or sepia) and just a touch of blue
4. Squares should be the predominant shape used (no circles please)
5. At least 1 number
1. To be considered for VSBN Recognition, ALL VSBN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Sunday, November 14, 2010 for VSBN.
2. You have 3 hours to complete the challenge (each challenge theoretically produces one page per hour). For contest purposes, 1 upload per participant per challenge will be eligible to earn award/recognition. For example: if you complete 3 individual pages for this challenge, and upload each of them to the gallery you can only win one award/recognition for only one of your pages; the other two are part of the gallery to share but cannot win any award/recognition. If you upload a double page spread as one upload, it will be considered one upload; please do not upload the pages individually or they will not be considered a double page spread. It is the VSBN Challenge Host's decision to award/recognize pages that best represent her challenge based on the criteria in the challenge. Please be sure to write your description of how you interpreted his/her challenge in your Upload Description.
3. Please remember to put in the correct KEYWORD: NOV10VSBNF , when uploading your image; a wrong keyword means your submission may not be seen for consideration. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure you layout is seen by the host and all visitors.

Cute sample Page Charlsanne!! Looks like Madi really liked her new bike ;)
yep, except she had a growth spurt right after hubby got it for her, but we will wait till spring to get her the next size up, and this one will be ready for Maci in a year or so. I couldn't believe how cold it felt today I never got warm, kept bumping up the heat, but I just couldn't shake the chill, not sure if I am completely ready for it yet, but everyone is thinking it may be a milder winter - snow wise, time will tell!!

interesting challenge Charlsanne .. I love Suduko too... never thought of it in terms of a page
I'm trying to crumb coat a cake and pay attention in here... starting to run out of steam....
Yum! I'll bring some coffee and we'll be back to "full steam" ahead with coffee and cake :p I'm feeling the same way. I was up until 0400 last night/this morning.

It is getting cold in Florida too!! At least no snow. Also no black and white photos here tonight. I will have to sit out this challenge for the night. Maybe later in the week if I get B&W's. I will be thinking about what I can do for the challenge.
I will go leave some love on the pages in the gallery.
We don't know what's up with Maci, teething we suppose, got 2 teeth a couple of weeks ago, and of course she has the cold now too, but ever since I put her to bed she has been crying every 20 mins or so, so about 4 times in the past hour and a half, I don't want to get her cause she stops after a minute or so, but I really hope it doesn't go on all night!!! Been doing that the past couple of nights too, poor thing, at least she is still napping well, but I am exhausted!!!

Is Maci 7 mths or 8 mths now? Is she old enough for Motrin if she's teething? Tylenol never did anything for my oldest. We're giving the youngest Motrin at night to make his head feel better for sleeping the last few nights..he's got a stuffy/runny nose... that's what happens when you start school though....
I'm trying to remember with the youngest if he was 8 mths when I made him cry it out. I was getting so exhausted from being up with him every 1hr to 1.5 hrs that I couldn't function. I let him cry it out (monitor off) and by the second night he was sleeping through. It made him take better naps too. He needed that "training" in how to put himself to sleep.
Unfortunately now he wakes up most nights for a potty run... and only daddy is allowed to go in... such a bummer for me...

Hi ladies, checking in. Today did not become my scrappy day as I thought. I'm happy to have gotten a few pages started before I had to run errands, sadly just made it home.

Val - she just turned 9 months yesterday :( Goes so darn fast!!
And yea I leave her, she goes to bed so easily (quite the opposite of Maddy), and fortunately she hasn't cried out in about 45 mins now, so hoping she's finally out. I think between the cold, teeth, full belly, etc she was just a little restless. And yes I do motrin for her too but I hate to give it unless necessary!!!
Thanks for the advice though

thanx! (hoping I get "birthday" right this time :rolleyes
It would be more interesting to take pics of the stuff my son is doing for his own party (if he'll let me).. Today he super-cleaned his room and he's been making mini gold pumpkins (paper strips and brads) for decorations. It's his "golden" birthday so we are having a golden theme. He made up a "Menu" board with fun titles for our meal and decorated that. Made a "welcome friends" sign in his best cursive for our guests on Sunday and tonight he set up the table that we display the cake on (which he helped me bake last night.) I usually am in charge of all those details so I'm having to let go of some of the visions I had for his party, but it's fun watching him.... He's had a sketch of the cake made for over a year and he even has a special candle for it......today we stood at the cakes at the grocery store and he pointed out specifically what he wants me to do... Hope I can make it happen...

yeah no pressure here.... (he's actually gone more simple compared to what I'd probably like to do... although I'm going to try to make pinecones again with pretzel sticks and a rose tip.)

Now THAT's a talent I definately envy! I have baked exactly ONE cake in my life, and I'm 31! My mom does a phenominal job decorating, but I guess it skipped a generation! ;)

The beauty of this cake is that it's 12 x 12 (exactly) so I look at it as a scrapbook page and lay it out. And the talent is really just like doing a paper piecing with frosting and the right tip... and a very good website called cakecentral... it even comes with a warning "this site is highly addictive." Every kind of cake, decoration, etc that you can imagine... to the point that in May, my 3 yr old sat at the computer and pointed to what he wanted and I just "CAKE" lifted : )

Up until January of this year, I could count on one hand the number of cakes I had decorated as well.... and let me tell you frosting can hide a multitude of sins.... holes, chunks, cakes that split apart in transit... the Whole. Nine. Yards....just like scrapping... no mistakes, just opportunities for embellishment...

Hoooooweeee!! I'd better stick to paper, I don't think my waistline can handle any Cake-lifting!
Love it!!

What was it that Bob Ross used to say? There are no mistakes, only happy little changes?

I did this whole thing and then realized I forgot to change all the pictures to B&W first! It did look pretty cool with his bright yellow shirt and the red silicon pans and red and white icing...so you'll just have to imagine that part! Started out with 9 squares and just rounded the outside corners. I thought it gave it a more finished look. DGS just LOVES to bake! And here you guys go talking about cakes too! too funny!
Hope you do take some pictures Val...would love to see them!
Super cute layout Terry!! You know, having fun in the kitchen as a kid means he'll probably enjoy cooking as an adult! He's going to have a very happy wife some day! Some day way waaaaay in the future (don't want to make him grow up faster than he's going to already! LOL)
OH! also noticed your keyword is transposed... you have NB instead of BN ;)
