JAN09VSBNH - Are you New Here?

3 Attachment(s)
Hello Ladies!

I am ecstatic to be your hostess for this part of the VSBN. Ive never hosted an event like this, so Im fairly new to all the bells and whistles, but I thought it would be fun to give it a try and I hope you like what I have in store for you

Since this VSBN is The Days of Our Lives I would like to include you in some of the events that I routinely encounter every couple of years. Being a military wife and mom, it is my job to get us from place to place in one piece (with our sanity) and make our home HOME. During our career, we will have (and have had) several New Homes. So, in honor of that, I want you to scrapbook something new be it a person, an object, a moment, a feeling; you name it.

But wait theres more! I also wanted to throw in a new technique that I think youll love as much as I do! In the first RAK that I received from Lela, I got some fabulous acrylic pieces. I had seen in a scrapbooking magazine awhile back (I believe it was Creating Keepsakes) about stamping on acrylic pieces, so I gave it a shot. I love it and how it turned out! So, that is my bonus challenge to you stamp on some acrylic. Acrylics come in all shapes and sizes and if you dont have any, I will accept clear buttons as a substitute. If you dont have any Stazon ink, you can stamp with craft ink and emboss the piece. As a last resort, you can use rub-ons on the acrylics as well.

Here are some samples to get you started:

Whidbey Island, WA
Tutu Cute
Christmas Eve

Please include in your description what the new item is (unless it is obvious). Good luck - I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Don't forget to use the keyword JAN09VSBNH so everyone can enjoy your beautiful creation and post a link back in this thread as well.

There is a 2 hour time limit on this challenge. All creations must be uploaded by Feb. 8, 2009.

Off to start!

Thats fine - I wouldn't have acrylics either unless someone gave them to me :)

jenstampingpad 01-31-2009 06:08 AM

HELP LOL

Can I use an acrylic stamp to stamp it? The only acrylic I have lol What about a transparancy?

that is what I was wondering. I cannot remember where I put the acrylic embellishment frames I have so I was thinking of the next best thing.

Good Morning!

Wow! What a way to start off the challenge. I've avoided acrylic because I did not know what to do with it; a great challenge for me! Hopefully I'll find some to use in my stash...hopefully something came in a kit that I put aside ;-)

Lmn 01-31-2009 06:09 AM

Yup!

That's what I was thinking....get some of the thin, clear "plastic" (acrylic) from packaging in your kitchen ("window on your macaroni box").

You could even just cut it in a square and stamp on it ;)

I know I know, but I don't save the packaging. What was I thinking??

I remember though, I still have the ghost letters and those are acrylic.

LOL - a transparency or packaging is fine if that is the only thing you have(even though it isn't quite as thick)

Those are PERFECT. I have some of those too and didn't even think about using them.

I think I'm going to try this with a page pebble. I've had them for E vah, and I've never known what to do with them. Ta da!!

Thanks for the challenge, Liz - what a cool idea! Gotta finish the page I'm on and think about it for a bit before I can start though. I'll see you in a few!

Elizabeth G. 01-31-2009 06:13 AM

Here's a Tip

Ladies - if you are going to use Stazon ink to stamp with, stamp your image first with either VersaMark or another embossing ink pad before you stamp with the Stazon. This builds a barrier to the stamp so it doesn't stain your stamp so bad (since Stazon is permanent).

Didn't know if you knew that or not?

rdoak03 01-31-2009 06:14 AM

can someone come pull me off my couch and haul me upstairs to my craft room? LOL

How clever!

Something else you might have on hand that can be substituted for acrylic are transparencies, like the old overhead sheets we used to use, packaging from a new set of paper or a gadget that came in that awful hard plastic casing that's so hard to open. If you use bling, often that comes on thin pieces of acrylic. Just some ideas for those who are still drinking their coffee (like me!).
