Default Ocean Water by Adelle ~ JUN14VSNH ~ Sat. Jun 7th 4:00 pm

Challenge Title: Ocean Water
Hostess: Adelle (Adelle)
Keyword: JUN14VSNH
Date: Saturday, June 7, 2014, 4:00 PM, EST

I live in the Canadian prairies so I seldom get to the ocean. My few visits were along the Atlantic coast, mostly when it was too cold to go into the water for a swim. I still came away covered in salt; in my hair, on my clothes, and I could taste it on my lips.

My challenge to you is to create a card using the salted background technique. You can find the tutorial HERE.

My sample is HERE

View the gallery for this challenge: HERE
View the Summer Vacation Master Challenge Thread: HERE

1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10 PM EST, on Saturday, June 14, 2014.
2. You have 1 hour to complete the challenge, unless otherwise noted.....you do not have to count prep time!
3. We have a special gallery for the Summer Vacation VSN.
a) From the "Main Gallery" dropdown list on the first page of the uploader, choose Events and Special Collections.
b) From the Sub-gallery dropdown list, choose Virtual Stamping and Scrapbooking Nights ~ it's the last in the list.
c) From the new sub-gallery dropdown list choose Summer Vacation - it's the very top of the list.
4. Please remember to put in the correct keyword JUN14VSNH when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
5. Please do not combine VSN challenges...but you may combine any other challenges with a VSN challenge!

It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure your layout is seen. THANKS SO MUCH FOR PLAYING ALONG!!!

Talking Very Fun

I love the beach too! Just got back from a few days of fun in the sun and sand.

Unfortunately, the only "water" in my near future is giving the dog a bath since it's a nice aftn and she can run around and dry off after it ... LOL

I will be back later with a card using this technique, I've never tried it before

Its very pretty. I love that you were able to get two for one so to speak. I really need to be better organized with my leftovers/scraps. Was that your experiments basket I saw in another thread?

Yes. There's three other salt panels in there, ready to go. Do one? Do a ton!

That's a great idea. Especially if you already have the supplies out.

This sounds like fun. I've never done this technique before. Will need to wait till tomorrow so I have time to make a mess with ink, salt and water. Cool idea for a challenge.

Yeah, it is a bit putzy. Makes a cool textured background. You can use your heat tool to speed it up. Can't wait to see it when you have time.

I've tried this technique several times in this hour and all I have succeeded in making is a mess. Guess I'll try this again some other time.

Coarse kosher salt and really wet works best for me. On watercolor paper, NOT regular cs.

The original tutorial recommended glossy card stock, but watercolor paper seems to work better from what I'm hearing. And the coarser the salt, the more defined your pattern.

I have always liked this technique, but don't use it often because it's messy!

Talking Here's Mine

My paper finally dried and I was able to finish my card background. I'd not tried this technique previously, it was fun. I ended up using table salt and glossy paper but the background turned out ok.

I've made my backgrounds - just got to make a card now. I decided to try both glossy card and watercolour paper, they've come out totally differently. Fun so far , thank you.

I didn't use all my background piece but diecut it - hope that's ok!
I still have the other one that I made on watercolour paper, so I'll try to work it in to one of the other challenges if I can .

That's fine, others are using the technique to create elements other than the background, and I love the creativity.

Wow, this was a real challenge for me. Not sure the background came out like it was supposed to, but I did like the result of my first attempt.

Thanks for the challenge! This is the first time that I tried this technique and it is difficult to see in the photo the salt reaction (I had to use table salt) but it did leave a crystalline effect :-) Thanks again for the inspiration!
