Default What is VSN - March 2007

What is VSN??

VSN stands for Virtual Stamp Night, which is a Splitcoaststampers tradition. VSN consists of a series of stamping challenges for participants to complete. ANYONE can play, there is no registration or fee and you can do as many or as few challenges as you’d like. Whether you are a new stamper or a seasoned vet VSN will get you to try new things and get your creativity flowing. VSN usually has a theme, for example, the theme for March 2007 is A VSN Getaway. Each of the VSN challenges usually related to the theme.

What is a VSN Challenge?
VSN is made up of a series of stamping challenges. Challenges will run over the course of two days: Friday night is the Tailgate party and runs from 7:00 PM EST until around 11:00 PM EST. Saturday’s event runs from 12:00 PM EST until 11:00 PM EST. Challenges will be posted throughout the night at one hour intervals. Just go to the VSN locked Master Challenge forum to see the challenges as they are posted. You have 45 minutes to complete each challenge and an extra 15 minutes to clean up, snack, upload or do whatever you need to. This does not mean that you have to have your card uploaded by the time the next challenge is posted. You have until the challenge deadline to upload your creation. (This deadline will be determined by the Coordinators and posted in the rules for each VSN, and is 3PM on Sunday, the day after VSN, March 25th). In order to be considered for judging, cards must be uploaded by the deadline.

Each challenge has a unique code (for example: MAR07VSNA) for you to put in the keywords when you upload your card. You'll need to include that code within your keywords in order for the challenge hostess to find your entry.

Winners will be posted 48 hours after the Hostesses have completed judging.

What does a VSN Host/Hostess do?
Each challenge is hosted by a challenge Host/Hostess. The Host/Hostess has decided their challenge topic and is responsible for judging his/her challenge entries. In the past the number of winners and reward for the winners has varied from one VSN to another.

Additionally, the hostess will also start a chat thread for their challenge, where you can go to ask questions or just hang out and chat! Hostesses are allowed to play during VSN (just not their own challenge).

What do the Coordinators do?
Each VSN has 2 Coordinators. They choose the Hostesses, post the challenges, and just all-around coordinate the entire VSN. Coordinators participate by helping to make samples for the challenges. Coordinators are not eligible to win any VSN categories.

What can you do to prepare?
Prior to VSN the Coordinators will post several things to help you prepare for VSN:
• A shopping list of supplies you may need to complete the challenges
• A Schedule
• The Rules for that VSN
• And any other relevant information that may be helpful for you in their particular VSN.

Default Newbie with a few ???

Ok, so first thing to ask is there anyway I can get the rules, shopping list ect...emailed directly to me? (I took the hint and subscribed to the thread as in one of the post tonight recommended) Also, how are winners chosen? and what do they win? I think I have the rest of the info, but was wondering if I might ask a few of these ???'s This months theme is Vacation Vixen correct? Please don't think of me as stupid but I think I would enjoy this and want to make sure to be prepared. Thanks
Tracy

Hi Tracy! No such thing as a stupid question.

The theme is actually VSN Getaway and our Vacation Vixens will be taking us to some wonderful destinations and places! We all need a break once in a while right!

The shopping list has just been posted! I will be posting the rules in the next day as well.

Winners are chosen by the hostess of each challenge and their winning designs are placed in a special Gallery a few days after VSN.

Feel free to PM me or post if you have any other questions!

Thanks
Jen

Great question...I was wondering, too.

~*~*~*~*~
Here's my VSN around the world 'chart'. I hope I did these right! Tis Daylight Savings Time for Europe & Australia...kinda confusing sometimes! *lol*

March 2007's VSN takes place *this* Friday, March 23rd ('Tailgate party') and Saturday, March 24th. To help you figure out *when* it starts and ends, here are *most* local times for March 2007 Virtual Stamp Night:
Note: /// separates Friday's 'Tailgate party' night from Saturday's Main VSN.

NORTH AMERICA:
  • Newfoundland, Canada: Fri - 8:30 PM to 12:30 AM /// Sat - 1:30 PM to 12:30 AM
  • Atlantic Time Zone: Fri - 8:00 PM to Midnight /// Sat - 1:00 PM to Midnight
  • Eastern Time: Fri - 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM /// Sat - 12:00 noon to 11:00 PM
  • Central: Fri - 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM /// Sat - 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Mountain (& Arizona & Saskatchewan): Fri - 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM ///Sat - 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM
  • Pacific: Fri - 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM /// Sat - 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Alaska: Fri - 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM /// Sat - 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Hawaii: Fri - 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM /// Sat - 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Note that there US States/Counties who have time zone exceptions.

SOME INTERNATIONAL PLACES : (using the 24 hr. clock) - Note: Europe & Australia change their clocks this weekend.
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina: Fri - 20:00 to Midnight /// Sat - 13:00 to Midnight
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Fri - 20:00 to Midnight /// Sat - 13:00 to Midnight
  • UK & Portugal: Fri - 23:00 to 03:00 /// Sat - 16:00 to 04:00 Sun (er...because of Daylight Savings Time)
  • Central Europe: Sat - Midnight to 04:00 /// Sat -17:00 to 05:00 Sun
  • Eastern Europe (example: Finland): Sat - 01:00 to 05:00 /// Sat - 18:00 to 06:00 Sun
  • Singapore & Hong Kong: Sat - 07:00 to 11:00 am /// Sun - Midnight to 11:00 am
  • Tokyo: Sat - 08:00 to 12:00 noon /// Sun - 01:00 to 12:00 noon
  • Perth: Sat - 08:00 to 12:00 noon /// Sun - 01:00 to 11:00
  • Guam: Sat - 09:00 to 13:00 /// Sun - 02:00 to 13:00
  • Sydney & Melbourne, Australia: Sat - 10:00 to 14:00 /// Sun - 02:00 to 13:00
  • Auckland: Sat - 11:00 am to 15:00 /// Sun - 04:00 to 15:00

If you're still unsure, here's a suggestion using TimeAndDate.com (which is what I used):
Click here to see the list of start times for FRIDAY for quite a few cities - just add 4 hours to figure out the stop time
Click here to see the list of start times for SATURDAY for quite a few cities - just add 11 hours to figure out the stop time (er...in terms of the stop time, just watch out for daylight savings, for some of you.)

Please let me know if I have any errors! I hope this helps!

Since DH will be flying back there and I wanted to figure out if his flight changes would happen during VSN....

  • Guam: Sat - 09:00 to 13:00 /// Sun - 02:00 to 13:00

He lands in Hawaii during Saturday's challenges, but he doesn't land in Guam till about 5 hours after it's all over. I figure this time I'll stay up and upload Saturday night (I usually do it Sunday morning) since he will call when he lands.... I may as well stay awake! LOL!

Check the challenge thread and in the attachment section of the first post there is a PDF that you can print the post card backs. There is also a link to a website with more options.

Ahhh, the link in the chat thread is bad, but the link in the Master thread works. I've copied it here for convenience: postcards

Thanks for that, Karen! I went into the thread and fixed the link. Obviously I didn't do that challenge. Hehehe.
