Title: Calming Pastels
Hostess: Greywolf (Val)
Keyword: NOV10VSNMINI3
Day/Date: Friday, October 15th
Time: 8:00pm EST
I am definitely not a sun worshiper - I love clouds! The soft fluffy texture, the cool, muted, pastel colors all make me feel calm and relaxed.
My challenge isMake a card with soft cloud colors (like pale blue, pink, lavender) using pastels or chalks. For an optional treat, (not a requirement) use flower soft (or shredded Styrofoam) somewhere on your card if you have it. VSN challenges are so exciting that I sometimes get tense trying to think of ideas and get cards done in 45 minutes. Make a card that is relaxing to look at but mostly just Have Fun!
Here's a tutorial to make your own faux fluff. (I don't think you should have to count time making this fluff as part of your 45 minutes, and hopefully you did it ahead of time anyway.)
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Monday October 18th.
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, NOV10VSNMINI3, when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure you layout is seen.

What a cool tutorial! I'll have to bookmark that one for later. Sorry to be so late to the challenge. We had a bit of a crisis! My four year old bonked her chin on the garden gate and bit her lip! She's all better now, but doesn't want to play outside with Daddy. She's going to watch a cartoon until she feels a bit calmer.

ETA: Oops, after I uploaded this, I realized I hadn't put any Flower Soft on it. I still had time left on my 45-minute timer, so I added the Flower Soft. I'll change the photo as soon as the glue dries. I hope that still counts!
Val, your cards look great! I just noticed the sponged clouds on your first card. What a wonderful detail!
I used at least 3 colors of chalk for those clouds. If I used any more they were going to turn "muddy!" It took me so long to get comfortable using chalks, but now I tend to get carried away.
I can't wait to find some styrofoam balls to destroy and color! My husband will never understand why I am buying something to de-construct it, and use it that way! LOL
There are 2 pics under your signature. Do you know where you found that 1st bird? My mother is looking for a punch about that size, but a stamp would work also.

I'm trying to mix it up with Mix-Ability every Friday (little behind!)
What do you mean? Did you wet the brush and apply to pastels? Color with pastels, and then draw it out with a wet brush? I'm just curious, if you don't mind.

Thanks,
Traci S.
The chubby bird on the No.1 card is from the Stampin' Up set "Wings of Friendship." He is a cutie, isn't he?
Meredith! So good to see you here. Yeah, "I've come a long way, baby." But you should have seen me just as it was time to upload my challenge. I was in a panic.
I have a question. If I were to use a tree stamp on an "emboss it" clear pad...could I use regular snow glitter on it? Will it stick, or do I melt it with a heat gun? (If it melts.) Or, do you have to use embossing powder?
If it is a stupid question...then I hope everyone had a good laugh...it's great to break the "time" stress!
It took me 20 minutes to find my chalks under a bunch of other stuff, but I did it! Thanks. They really give such a pretty soft look and I am going to use them again before they get buried. I forgot how much fun they were to use.
I used the popping pastels technique on my background papers and pastels on the edges of the flowers, although you can't tell in the photos. My colours are kind of "pastel-y"
