NOV09VSNPRE1 ~ SEPT. 25, 2009 ~ 7 pm EST ~ CHACONNE - DANCING IN TRIPLE TIME
Title: Chaconne - Dancing in Triple Time
Hostess: Yvonne ~Vonnie64~
Keyword: NOV09VSNPRE1
Day/Date: Friday, September 25/09
Time: 7:00 PM (EST)
Im not much of a dancer. Oh I can bust a move for a short period of time and can do a mean Funky Chicken when the spirit moves me, but I definitely am lacking in any training and knowledge of the more refined and stately dances of a Masquerade ball. However, Ive pulled my dance shoes out of the closet, cinched my corset up tightly (well, not too tightly! Muffin tops are NOT attractive!) and Im ready to teach you the steps of the Chaconne. Well, not really, but Ill give you a bit of an education about this dance. The Chaconne (pronounced sha kon) is a Baroque dance which originated as a dance-song in Latin America and was popular in Spain and Italy in the 17th century, with music in triple metre and in the major mode. Here you can see a youtube video of a version of Chaconne being beautifully played.
Bonus points if you use a 'dance' embellishment on your card - stamp of a show or dress or music notes, etc.
So, in honour of this lovely dance in triple time, my challenge to you is to make a card following the tutorial for the Tri-Shutter Card. A wonderful tutorial is located here by Bonnie Szwalkiewicz. This is one error in the cutting directions in the tutorial that has been brought to my attention - in Step 6 you need 2 pieces cut 1 3/8 by 3 7/8 - not 1 7/8.If you don't have 12 x 12 paper, you can improvise with 8 1/2 by 11. Trish has graciously provided the revised scoring measurements - Using a 5 x 10 piece of cs you would score at 1 3/4, 3 1/2, 7, 8
UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:

It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in the chat thread just in case the gallery is being testy.
Yikes, now I wish I had tried this card design before. 45 minutes seems short to someone who is 3D challenged like me. Nonetheless, once I get to leave my office I will dive right in to give it a try. Thanks for a great kick-off, err I mean great high kick.
Whew-this looks awfully complicated! I think the Chaconne dance might be easier (except for me since I broke my hip a year and a half ago). Question- In Step #2 -Do I make my slit 8" long ? ( it says "between marks at 2" and 10"). Help, please!

Beautiful sample! I hope I can finish mine in 45 minutes...I need to remember I don't need something exciting on every single panel!
Exactly! This type of card is a perfect way to show off patterned papers. The only stamping on the card is the branches and the sentiment on the front. All of the of the panels have DSP on them. Still fighting to upload the opened photo which shows all of it. Off to try again.

If you have a Fiskers cutter you can slide the blade to start at 2" and end at 10". Otherwise, I'd guess a ruler and craft blade.

I used a craft knife and a ruler to cut the line 1 1/2 inches in from the long edge between the first and last score line on both the top and bottom. Does that help? Watch the video - it really helps it all come together!
I have to sit this one out. I have never been able to wrap my head around a tri-shutter card. Maybe when I don't have a time restraint I will play with it and see what happens.
OMG! I normally just do scapbook pages but happened to see a card today in the gallery that caught my eye and it was the tri shutter fold! I thought this would make a great christmas card (gotta come up with something for a swap I go to in 3 weeks). There is a great video in the resources forum made by Beate that is really good too!
I just might try this one once I get the little one to bed tonight.
