Default MAR07VSNA 7:00pm EST Its The Easter Beagle Charlie Brown! Kids Challenge

MAR07VSNA 7:00pm EST Its The Easter Beagle Charlie Brown! Kids Challenge

Hosted by Raduse

And what does that mean..Easters coming!!!

That was, and still is, one of my favorite shows, and to help us on our Easter vacation get-a-way, were going to be decorating eggs. Thats right..eggs! Fortunately for mom, and the kid at heart, these wont break or have to be boiled. All you need to do is make an egg from white or vanilla cardstock, and decorate, color, or embellish it anyway you want. Let your imagination go wild. Now this goes for the adults too. Mom, grandma, auntie can all play.

Making your egg

If you, or mom, have a coluzzle, use the nested ovals and cut the outer most oval all the way except on the left side. On the left side you need to leave about 1 inch uncut to keep your card from falling apart. For those with no coluzzle, I have a template included below from the nested ovals. This way everyone is making the same size card.

Uploading Instructions:
You have 45 minutes to complete this challenge.
Be sure to upload to the Kids Gallery ( not the regular SCS Gallery ) so well be able to locate the cards for judging. Upload to : Gallery/Special Collections/Id Like to Thank the Little People
When uploading, be sure to use the appropriate challenge keyword for age group:

* Ages 5-8 MARCH07VSNA58
* Ages 9-12 MARCH07VSNA912
* Ages 13-17 MARCH07VSNA1317
* Adults MARCH07VSNAADULT

If you are using additional keywords, you must separate them with a comma.
Copying and pasting the keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
It is recommended that you post a link to your creation in the chat thread just in case the gallery is being testy.

Default MAR07VSNB 7:00pm EST Ready to go, but your Boss Resists!

MAR07VANB 7:00pm EST Ready to go, but your Boss Resists!
Hosted by Rhondag

Emboss Resist: Were all ready for our VSN Vacation Getaway, but unfortunately were not on our way yetYour VSN Vacation itinerary is set, your bags and stamping supplies are packed, and coconut-scented sunscreen is in your hand. So whats the problem?

Similar to real life vacations.your em-Boss Resists.too much work remains to be done! As your ~bossy~ Vacation Vixen, I have to ask you to do my challenge before you set sail.

My challenge is to incorporate the Embossing Resist technique into your card. That is the only requirement, and you will be on your way to Vacation Nirvana!

This technique requires you to choose your cardstock base, (I used Whisper White in the Find Joy example and Naturals Ivory in the Touch of Nature/Bluebird example.) then stamp your image with Versamark ink.

Next cover the images with clear embossing powder, shake off the excess powder and heat the embossing powder until shiny with your heat tool. After letting the cardstock cool for a few minutes (theres just enough time to put the excess powder back in your container), use a sponge (or stipple brush or brayer) to cover your card stock with classic ink. The embossed images will resist the ink and when you wipe the image with a paper towel, your images will remain the original color of your cardstock. The next step is to create your card.

In the bluebird example, after embossing the French Script background, I wanted a bit more emboss resist technique on the card. I used the Saran Wrap technique (wadded up Saran Wrap) to put a bit of Versamark around the Bluebird image. Then I used Emboss Resist to create a texture background around the image that my husband thought looked like clouds. So it doesnt necessarily even have to be an actual image that you emboss.

A great tutorial for this technique by Beate Johns is available here on SCS. It also shows that the embossing buddy can be used to help keep stray bits of embossing powder off of your cardstock for a professional finish. Here is a link to that tutorial: Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

I hope you enjoy this challenge, and I cant wait to see your creations! Have fun!

What's an awesome vacation if you can't brag about it to people left at home?? That's right, you send them a postcard! For this challenge, make a postcard. The standard postcard size is 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 inches, just like a standard A2 card. These can be mailed as postcards or used as the front of a card. Just as long as it has the look of a postcard. Enjoy your trip!

Pie fold the wax paper- and make sure that the point is the center of the piece of wax paper (or the design will be on either end). Keep folding it in the triangular pie shape till it is too small to fold anymore

Now, crumple the folded up wax paper piece

Unfold it, lay it on the glossy CS.

Sandwich it in between 2 pieces of scrap paper (one to protect the iron, the other to protect the ironing board. Iron the Wax Paper.

Default MAR07VSNF 11:00pm Vacation Wear Hosted by Jeanne S.

MAR07VSNF 11:00pm Vacation Wear Hosted by Jeanne S.

Hello Girlies (and any Vacation Studs out there)!!!

It's time to unpack and slip into something more comfortable. Your
challenge is: Vacation Wear!!!

The challenge is to make a card that has something to do with something you
would wear on vacation. This could be a stamped image of a bathing suit
or a parka (for those cold weather vacation spots). Or if you don't have
any images that you think might work then you can make the clothes, or
hat, of flip flops, or whatever out of paper. Get creative and have fun with it!

Here's a link to a folded shirt pattern (I didn't use this one. I just kinda winged mine):

Here's a pattern for Flip Flops:

MAR07VSNH 1:00pm Room with a View Hosted by Gremhog

So we are all heading for various destinations. But before you start you, you have to do some planning. In your head. Then for real. So as winter begins to turn to spring, where would you like to be right now. YOUR FAVORITE GETAWAY. What does it look like? Where it is? Far away in some exotic clime or as near as your neighborhood beach?
My Challenge Description: You have 45 minutes to make a ROOM CARDone that is 3-D in nature. And fill it with all the things you have just dreamed about for your favorite GetAway.
Start with an 8.5x8.5 square piece of cardstock. Score it in the middle, both ways.

Then cut up on score line to the center.

These 2 squares will overlap to form the base for your room. After thatall the creativity is yours.

Here is my GetAway Room Card: My husband loves flowers and gardens so wherever we go, we have ended up in Botanical Gardensfrom Virginia to Seattle. And we have spent time renewing ourselves, our ideas, our spirit.

A special thanks goes out to Inkydigits who inspired my first room card and I have made so many of them: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Please remember to use Keywords for the appropriate challenge when you upload your cards. Otherwise they may be missed when it comes time for the Vixen to pick cards for the Special Gallery!!!

Default MAR07VSNK 4:00pm The Old Bags new Tag Hosted by Karen Stamps!

MAR07VSNK 4:00pm The Old Bags new Tag Hosted by Karen Stamps!

No matter the destination, every getaway needs some luggage. Even Victor Newman on one of his Grand Romantic Gestures prepacks a bag for the missus for the spur-of-the-moment trip in the Newman jet.

The thing with luggage, though, is to make sure you get your own suitcase off the baggage carousel. After all, who wants to be strutting down the beach on the Mexican Riviera wearing someone elses string bikini? Worse yet, who wants to unpack their suitcase when they get home only to discover someone elses vacation laundry and sandy souvenirs?
So, the challenge here is to make your own luggage tag, one thats unique and easy to spot in the parade of black suitcases on the baggage claim conveyor belt.

Use the ID badge holder from the shopping list and embellish it to your hearts content. If you werent able to find the badge holders, you can improvise with similar items such as nametag holders, or (gasp) an actual luggage tag from your suitcase.
For my ID badge version, the insert is 2 7/8 x 4. The ID badge I used was from Staples and is the heavy-duty kind. The nametag holder was leftover from a conference and I made a replacement insert (4x3). I was inspired for this idea by similar tags on SCS and by genie1314 on her blog.

Default MAR07VSNL 5:00pm Piercings even your mom would Approve Of

MAR07VSNL 5:00pm Piercings even your mom would Approve Of
Hosted by Emilymomto3boys

This challenge is Paper Piercing!! This is one of my favorite ways to dress
up a card. It is really simple to do, you don't need any cool gadgets, and
it doesn't require any additional layering or anything! All you need is
something that can pierce your cardstock. This can be a straight pin, a
thumbtack, a real paper piercing tool - whatever!

There are several ways you can pierce your paper. A few suggestions:

1. faux stitching - this is where you will pierce a border around something
and then use a marker or gel pen to connect the dots to make it look like
you used a sewing machine on your project. I personally love this because I
don't own a sewing machine - and this way I can fake it!

2. using a template - this is where you will use something that has a grid
for you to pierce along. You can use the SU template, a cross-stitching
grid, whatever. With this, you can do faux stitching, pierce a pattern in
the corners, or just a line along the edge of your project.

3. random punching - with this you can just pierce wherever you would like
to accent your image. I did this in the background of my Doodle This
example. I pierced all the dots from the image to accent the background
images.

4. faux mini eyelets - in this technique you will pierce the edges of your
project (be it an image or a scallop punch) and then run a white gel pen
along the edges of the pierced circles. It looks like a tiny eyelet was
placed there. I use this method a lot!

Anyway, there are several more ways to do paper piercing so have at it

Default MAR07VSNM 6:00pm Survivor: VSN Hosted by refinnej2, shadowcatcher, Stampalicious

MAR07VSNM 6:00pm Survivor: VSN Hosted by refinnej2, shadowcatcher, Stampalicious

Fans of the show Survivor know the candidates have a "fun" getaway to a remote location. This VSN is your chance to getaway (at least mentally). The difference is that the survivor candidates have only their surroundings...you on the other hand get to design a survival kit to take on your getaway. Your challenge is to alter a container to create a survival kit for a special getaway for you or a friend. We've attached several samples to get your juices flowing. Immunity points can be earned for the following things:

List of items you would include in your survival kit (you can post this when you upload)
Coordinated altered items for your survival kit
And just because we LOVE patterned paper...using patterned paper on your kit

In staying with the Survivor theme we want you to cast your vote for your favorite survival kits. You can definitely vote for more than one in this game of Survivor: VSN...and we want to encourage it. The more comments you make, the more chances you can earn to win a special Survivor: VSN reward.

Default MAR07VSNN 7:00pm Lets Fly Away

MAR07VSNN 7:00pm Lets Fly Away
Hosted by Marie Wms

Lenny Kravitz sang to me (and a few million others) in 1998:
I wish that I could fly
Into the sky
So very high
Just like a dragonfly

Id fly above the trees
Over the seas in all degrees
To anywhere I please
Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah

For me, get-aways are nearly always fly-aways, so this song has been stuck in my head ever since the VSN theme was announced!
Your challenge is to make a card featuring anything that flies. Be creative in interpreting this challenge. Ive used some obvious flying objects for my two samples, but Ive got a few less literal ideas in mind tooI cant wait to see your unique ideas!

Default MAR07VSNO 8:00pm Frayed and Frazzled, Calgon Take My Away! Hosted by jstarbright

MAR07VSNO 8:00pm Frayed and Frazzled, Calgon Take My Away! Hosted by jstarbright

Aren't there just some days that by the end of the day you feel frayed and frazzled to the limits, where all you want to do is to escape to a tub filled with warm water and sweet smelling bath salts and dream of a vacation getaway, your own little Paradise! And then someone busts through the door having to use the potty and reality sets in and your fantasy is over, but ahhhhhh it was nice for a few minutes anyway !

So my challenge to you is to Fray Some Grosgrain Ribbon.

To do this you have to cut the long seams of the ribbon down both edges, gently pulling the short cross woven parts and this should give you nice strands of ribbon fibers. These long strands can be rather slippery so hang onto them tightly as you pull them free from your original piece of ribbon. I would recommend using at least a 6 inch long piece of the grosgrain so you can knot the middle, you can always trim it down later. You can use the edge along with your frayed strands or not, it is your choice. There are many ways to use the ribbon as accents on your card design and if you are stuck for an idea I will be in my Chat Thread for the next hour if you want some hints.

Default MAR07VSNP 9:00pm Angelas Accordian Shop

MAR07VSNP 9:00pm Angelas Accordian Shop
Hosted by fivekids7

Doesnt hearing an according make you think of far off places. Like Germany, or the Swiss Alps? My challenge to you is to make an Accordian Card.

Using 2 3X5 Index cards with tabs (making sure the tabs are facing opposite directions), score each at 2 1/2 inches.
Attach middle panels together making the middle panel a double layered panel.
Fold panel A over panel B and panel C behind panel B making an accordian fold.
Using any color of CS or DP, cut it to 7 1/2 X 3 1/2. ( 2 pieces, one for the front and one for the back).
Attach front piece to index cards and trim off excess around tabs.
Attach back piece to index cards and trim off excess around tabs.
Inside panels were cut at 2 1/4 X 2 3/4. (optional).

DECORATE & ENJOY!!!!

MAR07VSNQ 10:00pm Travel Time Hosted by babitoons

If youre like me you have a list, it may not be written down, but it does exist. It is simply a list of all of the places you would like to go to during your life. You may dream of exploring the wilderness, dipping your feet in cool water after a hot day at the beach, or possibly discovering what another country has to offer. I know you have a list, its one of the things that we do

Unfortunately we may never get the chance to experience all of the places we always wanted to goso how do we solve that problem? We go there anyway! I say we take the chance that this VSN Vacation Getaway offers us! My challenge is to use an image of a place you dream of going to in your card. Take a picture from a magazine or website of a place youve always wanted to go and use it either for inspiration or as part of your card. Use the picture of your choice and find a way to use to truly Getaway with VSN! Perhaps your selected image would make an excellent background; maybe it inspires you to do something new with your stamping supplies. Just take a chance and you may find the card that will take you away from it all!

Default MAR07VSNR 11:00pm Misty Eyes

MAR07VSNR 11:00pm Misty Eyes
Hosted by mybearybest

Don't you just love going on vacation? It's so wonderful to take a break from all the stuff of everyday life. Hasn't this VSN Vacation Getaway been fun?! Makes you want to cry when the vacation's over. Well, dry those misty eyes and mist your stamps instead!

My challenge is misting. Color your stamp with markers, ink pads or watercolor crayons. Then hold it flat with the rubber side up and gently spritz it with water from a small squirt bottle. I've found it works best if I hold the squirt bottle @ 6 inches away and spritz over the top of the stamp instead of directly at the stamp.

Stamp your misted image, spritz and stamp again for varying shades of color on your picture. Watercolor paper is my favorite for misting, as it does a great job of soaking in the water and ink from your stamp. I love how shimmery white cardstock looks with this technique too, but even regular white cardstock works in a pinch.

Just over a year ago, there was a technique challenge for misting, TLC47. You can go here to read about it or here to see some card examples for ideas.

Default Time to pack your bags...

Clean off your stampin scrub, pick up the eyelets that rolled on the floor, put away the scissors before your 2 year old gets up tomorrow, give your DH a few kisses to make up for all the time you neglected him while you stamped this weekend, scan a few more cards in...

And then, get a good night's rest!

Thanks so much for coming on this VSN GETAWAY with us. Jen and I had a fun time and we'd love to be your guides again on a stamping adventure! A special THANK YOU to the Vacation Vixens for all of their creative hardwork and talents. Their ideas made this VSN fun and challenging!

Over the course of the next few days, we hope you'll make lots and lots of comments on the cards/projects from VSN. Perhpas try one of the new projects/techniques again.

As FlaxyChick would say, "Bonne nuit!"
