Be sure to put "AugVSND" in your keywords box when you upload your card!!
Please read ALL instructions before you start this challenge believe me, it will go much much more smoothly if you do !!!
Welcome to AugVSND I hope you have lots of fun with this one. It sounds a little complicated but once it you do it its very easy. We will be making glue stick charms! For an example of a glue stick charm check out this link:
If you are struggling with this, its okay!!! Finish your card design within the allotted 45 minutes. Then, if you need to, go back and make the charm at the end before uploads or if you have any extra time on one of the other challenges.
You will need:
*Hot glue gun *Glue sticks *Small stamp of your choice *A heatproof mat OR a glass baking dish and some cooking oil (this is how I do it and it works out great) *materials to make card of your choice *black ink *hole punch or straw *versamark OR a tiny bit of cooking oil *optional: reinker, toothpick, stamp pads, pearl-ex powder
Instructions: 1. Put a glue stick in heat gun and plug in- do this first thing!!!!
2. Pick out stamp you are going to use.
3. Design and assemble the card you will be placing the charm on get this finished while you are waiting for glue gun to heat up.
4. Rub a tiny, tiny bit of cooking oil in a small area of your glass baking dish or use heatproof mat.
5. Squirt about a quarter size dollup of glue into the baking dish on top of the area you greased with cooking oil (see pic 1).
6. OPTIONAL** If you want color throughout your charm squirt one or two drops of reinker into the glue dollop. Swirl it around with toothpick to mix.
7. LET GLUE SIT FOR 15 SECONDS
8. Ink stamp with versamark or a teeny tiny bit of cooking oil.
9. Lightly set the stamp into the glue glob. Let sit until glue is completely cooled (see pic 2) * dont press down too hard. Make sure you are not pushing so hard the foam is going into the glue. It should settle into the glue a little bit but the stamp should not be pressed to the bottom.
10. When glue is cooled. Lightly pull the stamp out of the glue glob
11. If you would like your charm attached to your card with ribbon or fiber, punch a small hole in the charm with hole punch (see pic 3) (you can also skip this part and just attach the charm with some gluestick when its finished)
12. Rub ink onto the charm OR dust with pearl ex powder to finish spray with a little hairspray
13. Place stamp into black ink pad. Stick stamp in the charm you made. It should fit in the grooves the stamp made in the glue. This brings out the detail in the stamp.
14. Thread ribbon through or glue on card (see pic 7)
Remember: if you are struggling, finish your card design and come back to the gluestick charm before you upload or when you have an extra minute.
I'm going to have to save this one until another time. I have no idea where my glue gun may be. Looks like a great technique I can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing it.
My card is all ready and my glue gun didn't heat... :( I am trying a different outlet - sometimes this one doesn't work. {crossed fingers}
OK, Got it!!! How fun! Andrea, I thought it was a little nuts when I read the directions, but I thought, what the heck. Well, it was so easy and soooooo cute!! I will do this again many times!
I just did my glue right on adhesive backed aluminum foil tape, so the metallic shows through. So cute - thanks for the fun new trick, Andrea!
Your challenge couldn't have come at at better time! I did two faux wax sceal about a month ago and couldn't come up with any idea to use the second one. Your challenge got my creative juice flowing again! I saw my little fairy and inspiration came.
Low temp hot glue is probably prettier--dunno. Old hot glue that has been in the gun for at least 10 years is NOT pretty-- its kinda yellow.
Parchment paper works great for making your charm on.
Wire twisted in a circle makes a really cute border on your charm and then can be twisted at the top to create a really nice hanger.
If you realize that you have forgotten to grease your stamp as you are pushing it into the hot glue, you can quickly rescue it and pick the glue out of the crevaces of said beloved stamp with an exacto knife if you hurry.
If charm has hardened in the mean time, you can reheat it with your embossing gun rather effectively.
Please let me know if most of you were using low temp glue guns. Mine was high temp and it is really cloudy and yellow. But it may be the age of the glue in the gun, etc. Wish I had some of those metallic rub ons...

Good hints; my gun is one I can do low or high temp. It has been on high though! I will have to try it tomorrow on low temp. Obviously this one needs more practice!
Will post link to gallery soon!
This is so fun!!, I just tuned in so have my charm made, now need to make a card. If I understand correctly, we can play a little late as long as we don't take over 45 min to make a card, right? Ok I finished it in time-here it is> Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Andrea, What a fun challenge. I did it in 45 mins and then uploaded. I have done the medallions before, which helped. Geeeesssss! I think I need a cleanup break and brain strain break!!!! I'm having a blast! Nancy
I really did it!! An entirely new technique. Scanner does not show colors accurately. I think it is because the lid won't close all the way. So, my bright blue and red look dark. But this was FUN!! I will have to think about Christmas cards with tiny angels... maybe? Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
This sounds so cool and I wanna try, but my hot glue gun is nowhere to be found, lost forever in my messy room . . . maybe if I find it later I will try . . . **sad**
Wow...this one gave me trouble. I saw this recently at a rubber stamp expo. They used black glue sticks. It was neat, but I didn't buy the sticks. I figured it could be done with the clear...and pow...here it was, a challenge on VSN. Thanks for the great challenge!
