VSN HostessBeth Hartley Saturday, August 23rd at 10:00 PM (CST).
The keyword for this challenge is: AUG08VSNQ
Howdy everyone! Are you all bright eyed and bushy tailed at this hour?? Hope so.....so....let's.....head to the bush and GET WILD!
Mukiwa by Peter Godwin is a fantastic book about a boy growing up in Zimbabwe, Africa. I was fortunate enough to have lived in Zimbabwe for a year, and spent a few summer trips there during before I got married working at a mission.
When I think of Africa, I immediately think of all the fantastic creatures that grace the plains and veldts of the landelephant, lion, wildebeest, giraffe, water buffalo, and zebra. Two animals that are my personal favorites are the ugly warthogs that only their mothers could love.they are so ugly they are cute. And, the infamous dung beetle, whose job it is to roll big balls of poo along with their hind legs in which to lay their eggs! They also feed off the poo, too. J Ewwwww!!
Your challenge is to come up with an AFRICAN ANIMAL CARD using the BRAYERED BATIK technique. (If you dont have any African animal stamps, thats okay, any animal will do. Or just use the Technique if you have no animal stamps.its the technique we want first! The animals are secondary)
You will need the following items (or similar items) to complete your challenge. Spectrum Pad Rubber Brayer Watercolor paper Water mist bottle Black Craft Ink or Versamark Black Embossing Powder Embossing Buddy Powder Pal Heat tool Go GET WILD and lets see what you can do!!!

Such a cool challenge Beth. I love the sky effects you all have gotten with your brayers. Mine did not turn out that way at all! I will upload in just a sec.
Also, special thanks to Karolyn for tipping us off on the sale on the Kaleidacolor pads!
Beth, I promise to do your challenge in the morning. Hugs sweetie!
Okay, Miss Laurie...I know it's getting late for you.....is it 12 your time, or 11 or 10??? Hehehehehe!
You guys need to know my brain blockage......it's with time zones and I can NEVER never never keep the straight. If it wasnot for Laurie..I'd have posted this sucker at the wrong time! Hehe!
Beth, it's 10pm Lori and Laurie time. DH is sleeping already, and I am just about ready for bed. I wanted to stay here and cheer you on. Cool technique that I can't wait to try. Thanks to my awesome SU Demo for giving me two pieces of watercolor paper to give this a try. Good night.

YEPPIE!! I've been wanting to try this tech and just haven't gotten there yet! Thanks!! But I am really getting sleepy - I might have to do this 1st thing in the morning when I come back to do some of the other challenges I am too sleepy to do tonight... even my black lab Abby is yawning! But then again, she's always sleeping around the house! HA
Good night ladies. Or since this IS a book club weekend shall I say....

That I shall say good night till it be morrow." (Juliet)
:-D Great book and a wonderful movie - the 1968 version starring Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey. Man - that movie is amazing!!!

Beth, this is an AWESOME challenge! I loved doing this technique. I've had my spectrum pads for ages and they've just been sitting there lonely.

Thanks for plaing, ladies! These are some awesome lookin' cards!
You will find my card right here. I will tell you now, it is not the traditional african animal. This was a really fun technique to try. I have to get to the resource page more often.

I had fun trying this technique - it was new to me. It was so much fun (and easier than I thought!)--now I need to get more spectrum pads and some black embossing powder. I had to use black sparkle embossing powder because it was the closest thing I had!
