Hi! Thanks for asking; sometimes we forget there are new people who get confused by our alphabet soup!
VSN stands for Virtual Stamp Night. It's actually more than one night, but here are some highlights:
Three of us Lee (aka LuvLee) Misti (aka Scraperwannabe) and me are the current VSN Moderators. We select a theme, then recruit and organize people to host challenges related to that theme.
For the event itself, first there is a "Mini" VSN. This is typically a Friday night about 1 month before the Main VSN. Each of the moderators hosts a challenge that night. For example, our Spring VSN theme was Parks & Recreation. I hosted a challenge called Concert in the Park. The challenge was to include musical elements as well as a park element (trees, picnic basket).
The Main VSN is actually 2 days; a Friday and Saturday. Challenges are posted each hour here in the VSN forum. We have about 5 challenges on Friday, then another 8-10 challenges on Saturday...all related to the theme.
Now, here is the key component of VSN: the challenge is to create your card (or project) in one hour or less. Some of us spend loads of time on cards (often overthinking details!) so this gets us creating more quickly. We do not have any VSN "police" so we just go on an honor system. Many people try to get the cards all completed that weekend, but we add another week for people to stamp and upload to the gallery. (In the early days, we had 45 minutes to stamp, then use the other 15 to upload before the next one was posted! It was a whirlwind!) ***Also, many people use images they stamped and colored in the past or special backgrounds made with techniques. If you have these in your stash, feel free to use them to save loads of time.***
ANYONE can participate in any or all of the challenges!! Some stampers finish them all, and they hope to win a fun "Virtuoso" prize. We also draw names from the VSN gallery to receive cards from one of the hostesses or a goodie prize from a moderator.
Previous VSN threads are archived, but here is a link to the Master thread from our last event. You can read through it and click on gallery links to see how people interpreted the challenges. Lots of fun variation! I hope you can join us!!
