NOV06VSNP PAINT WITH EMBOSSING POWDER

MAY DAY MAY DAY!

Pixie Hostess: peggysue
Challenge Code: NOV06VSNP
Challenge Time: Saturday 11:00 PM
Challenge Title: May Day Challenge

NOV06VSNP: 11:00 PM EST May Day Challenge

Challenge Description:
Welcome to a springtime holiday, May Day! May Day represents a riot of color
from all of the springtime blossoms and buds and this is your chance to celebrate. Express your joy of the season by painting with embossing powders, our technique for this challenge!

For this challenge you will need:
A finely detailed stamp (just works better)
 Versamark
Three or more colors of embossing powder
 Heat gun
Small spoon or straw with the end cut out

1. Ink up your stamp with Versamark and stamp on cardstock.

2. Select your first color of embossing powder and using the spoon or straw,
depending on whether you want bands of colors or fine details, sprinkle the
embossing powder on the portion of the image you want to color first.
(NOTE: If you want to preserve as much remaining embossing powder as
possible, start at the outer edge of the image you are stamping, so when you
shake off the excess, you can capture it in a tray or bottle. If you sprinkle EP in the middle of your image first, you have to put on all the powders you are coloring with first, then shake them off and all of the colors of embossing powder mix together.)

3. Shake off the excess embossing powder, being careful not to get the first color of EP on areas of the image you want to make a different color. It is best to apply the first EP color towards the outer edge of your cardstock and work your way across the image, band by color band.

Once you have your bands of embossing powder on the image, set with your
heat gun.

In the samples, you'll notice the tulip shows a color banding technique using purple, blue and gold. I put on purple first, shook it off, used blue, shook it off, then used gold.
Two samples use Lovely As a Tree. I used the straw on this one because I wanted the tree trunks one color and variation in the "leafy" portion. The spring card uses colors that remind me of buds blossoming on the tree.

Intriguing challenge..... unfortunately, the EPs I set out early (based on the shopping list) are SO NOT GONNA work for this! Time to hit the EP drawer and see what I can find that will play well together! LOL! Back to the stamp room!!!!

Some of the samples only use metallics. A trio of metallic EP is fine. Pearl Ex is okay as a substitute if you really need to.

Englishrose 11-11-2006 07:31 PM

OK, here it is
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=94114
I don't have enough coloured EP so had to use bronze but I like the way it turned out. Even DH liked it!
Thanks for the challenges, I've fun and learnt so much.

Really enjoyed trying something new. I was limited in the embossing powders that I had, but loved the results. Thanks and hope you like.

Great idea!! I don't really have 'colors' of EP, just like metallics, black, white, and sparkly. But Pearles I have!!! :)

lorettal 11-11-2006 07:40 PM

I love this challenge! I have got to invest in more ep. Note to self - there is a world beyond copper...

This took longer than it should have - my glitters and ep's are stored together - and I really had to hunt for the right stuff. I am pretty happy with the way it came out - hope y'all like it!

Jeanne S 11-11-2006 07:45 PM

Let me take a moment to thank all of the hostesses - you girls did one awesome job - you were well prepared, supportive and very creative with the challenges. Thanks, thanks, thanks!

All the hostesses were wonderful! Very creative! Thank you for all your time and hard work.

crazycatstamper 11-11-2006 07:51 PM

Well, I didn't have much of a choice of EP.... most of mine are metallic, black or white! I did have 3 that are PearlEx mixes.... They are called "Moon Glow Embossing Powders". It didn't turn out too bad! This was a CHALLENGING challenge! I'm going to clean up the stamp table and get out the clipboard and modgepodge and do that one first thing in the morning. If I did it now, it would have added glitter and EP that I really don't think it needs! LOL!

Here is my card for this one:

Hee, hee! that was my first EP 'color' too!

MelenaPrincess 11-11-2006 07:53 PM

OK, I used black silver and clear and then felt like I cheated, so I used 3 PearlEx Powders on the Background.

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...03331&cat=4074

I also missed the part that it was supposed to be floral, so I used the palm tree from Balmy Breezes instead. Ooops. It's still plant life right?

bensarmom 11-11-2006 07:56 PM

Whew, here it is my last challenge called, Sprng Bouquet.

I agree wholeheartedly! This was my first VSN, and y'all made it a wonderful time! I know this took a lot of work on your part, and it is appreciated. You really got those creative juices flowing - in all of us! There has been some incredible art posted!!

kwhittek 11-11-2006 08:13 PM

Well after numerous technical difficulties (power outages due to crappy 70's wiring in my house) I'm finally able to upload again. It's kinda hard to tell but the image and the saying are both "painted" TFL!

MoberKitty 11-11-2006 08:17 PM

This was such a cool challenge but I don't consider much of a grand finale for me. I must be getting tired! Maybe I can do 'make-up' work tomorrow morning before the deadline. ha ha
But soooo many thanks to peggysue for ok-ing the use of Pearl-ex. Really bailed me out and I've recently discovered that my ep collection is severely lacking in actual color. ;)
