MAR18VSNC Friday 7:00 PM ET Friday Water Your Garden
Challenge Title: Water Your Garden Hostess: Smadson (Sharon) Keyword: MAR18VSNC Date: Friday March 23rd 7:00 PM ET
Good evening and welcome to our VSN! How does your garden grow? Probably not much if you don't water it. They need lots of water. I found a great quote about this subject that I just have to share with you.
"Gardening requires lots of water, most of it in the form of perspiration." BY Lou Erickson
Anyway, you guessed it my challenge is to use water! I recently discovered this technique: Watercolor on Yupo
Dina right here on SplitcoastStampers has a great tutorial.
That is my challenge to watch Dina's tutorial and create a card using this technique. Here is the tutorial.
Don't make it too hard, just have fun! Just put some watercolor on your Yupo paper or watercolor paper if you do not have Yupo. It is just a prettier effect on Yupo. Maybe spray with water, then let it dry, then stamp your image on it with Stazon. Then if you want to, you can water color more detail after you stamp. I did not use the alcohol or a fixative. I think this technique is a pretty effect.
Here are two samples of mine: Attachment 333913 Attachment 333918
And here are some more from our hostesses:
You might let it dry while you do some other challenges then go back and make your card. Remember, that preparation doesn't count in your time, only when you start putting your card together!

This was totally fun to play with yupo paper for the first time. I am going to have to get some stazon ink as I had to heat emboss my yupo paper and then warped it so then I had to fussy cut it to get it to lay on my card. Still fun to play with it for the challenge.
My first attempt didn't work...paper warped too much and my detailed image didn't stamp well. But I can already tell that I am going to LOVE this technique!
I'll be back soon!

Mine smelled funny when it was wet. Maybe it was my package. But despite the smell, the effect of moving color around was very fun!
I used a heat tool a little, but stopped, because it was moving the water and color around too much. At least I have an idea what to expect. I'll probably tape some yupo down and do the watercolor tonight, then add my image tomorrow; basically split up my VSN hour. ;)

Sharon, I made some B/Gs with this technique...gosh that yupo paper...fingerprints everywhere. Luckily baby wipes took it off.
Will post 1 I've completed and still trying to work out the other. I used transparency yupo to make the background and it needs sticking without seeing the other side...what to do....!! Thanks for the challenge my SCS friend. Loved it and I'm hooked on this yupo.

Thanks for the fan club sneak peak. I don't know how I could have done this in the time allowed! As it was, the ink on the image took too long to dry, and I tried using the heat gun. Warped the (nasty) yupo.
Shall I reprise last time's tantrum RE plastic "paper"?

Sharon, loved your challenge...here's the 2 cards I made yesterday and as I love this technique so much, you may see more LOL. I also found that on one of the cards I used the wrong black ink...doh! I am trying to get some fixative...LOL...for now I just have to make sure I don't touch it...haha.
Moral of my story.....keep all black inks separate on craft table LOL.

I didn't have any Yupo paper, so I applied a layer of gesso on some watercolor paper. It was a little more resistant than without the gesso - the paint behaved differently! I'll have to experiment with this again!! I also got to use a new die cut on this card. This was fun!!

By the way... is it just me or does Yupo paper stink...as in smell bad?
Mine doesn't smell and even when I heat it but then I do have bad sinusitis and probably blocked....LOL
