MAR13VSNK ~ Sat. March 2nd ~ 6:00 PM EST ~ Black, Bright, & BEAUTIFUL!
Title: Black, Bright, and Beautiful!
Hostess: Kim (berlycece)
Keyword: MAR13VSNK
Day/Time: Saturday March 2nd, 6:00 pm EST
Hello Stamping Friends!
I am soooooooooo excited to host my first VSN challenge! I love participating in challenges here on SCS! And having a weekend of challenges is even better!
When I first saw the theme for this spring VSN, my eyes fixated on the *Creepy Crawlies* and I thought, "Eeeeewwww!"
But almost immediately, I realized that some bugs are actually BEAUTIFUL! A lot of bugs feature amazing bright colors that contrast with their black bodies. They may even be iridescent!
My challenge to you is a COLOR Challenge (my favorite kind, by the way!) Create a project that features a dark neutral (like black or brown) and one BRIGHT color (like lime or turquoise)
You can use other colors...just let the one neutral and one bright be the focal points.
Just like the color challenges here every week, I am offering you a dessert option: Add some shimmer! Maybe shimmer spritz, dazzling diamonds, silver cord...you get the idea.
Remember, this is a color challenge, so you don't have to have a bug on your card! But to get your inspiration going, check out the beautiful bugs below.
I made 2 samples...one without a bug, one with bright and beautiful butterflies!
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Monday March 4th.
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge. Honor system, of course!
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, MAR13VSNK, when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
Be sure to give the picture of your project a unique file name. There are always lots of submissions for VSN challenges! It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure you layout is seen.
I can't wait to see what fabulous projects you create!

Here's my sample. I don't know why I don't work with black-based cards more often. They are stunning. Dad already snagged this one to send to his sister.

That butterfly is stunning!
...and YES! Cards with a black base, or even black layers look fabulous! It is not my go-to look...but I should definitely do it more often!
Thanks for playing!

Kim, I love your green and black card. So striking! I really like brights with a dark neutral. One of my faves is turquoise and Brown. But black too. Great challenge. I will have to do it later, as we are starting dinner, and then have LD phone call with our grown kids after dinner. But I will be doing the rest of the challenges later tonight.
But I can be thinking.

Thanks Sharon! I will never part with my Extreme Guitar stamp! Too Much fun!!
I'll be watching for your cards!

I am trying to play catch up but, think this is my last tonight. I uploaded a card for another challenge and put the details of this one. Don't know what I am doing! LOL
Here is The Sound Of Your Voice . First time I have ever used this die! I have had it for over a year and had never opened it!
Orange is usually not one of my favorite colors but I really liked how
this card came together. It is now one of my favorite combinations of colors!
Thank you for a great color challenge! :p
I think your avatar heavily influenced my choice of stamp for this! I'd have liked more time to maybe add texture or sparkle to my rings, by I like how it turned out. Close to what I was imagining!! VSN K Dragonfly Bright
I looked at the picture and realised how messy my embossing is when I hurry. Hopefully you'll overlook that and just see the general idea behind the card. As soon as I started stamping the butterflies it seemed the only way to go. And, yes, they are the names of real butterflies MAR13VSNK - butterfly collection by Sarah T. - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
I wasn't crazy about the way this one turned out -- but here's my Blue Iridescent Thank You . The iridescent twinkling H2O on the butterfly looks really cool when you look at from a certain angle, but from some angles it just looks like a blotchy off-white film.
