JUN12VSNMINI2~ Friday, May 11th ~ 6:00pm EST ~ International Flair
Title: International Flair
Hostess: Tami, tamijo
Keyword: JUN12VSNMINI2
Day/Date: Friday, May 11th
Time: 6:00pm EST
I have taken several mission trips with my church in years past. I have gone to Honduras (in college), Greece (three times) and Romania (two times). I have the desire to travel and share! Each trip I have learned new and exciting things about the country, the people, and myself.
Your challenge is to create a card or a 3-d project with international flair. You could use an image based on a location, use stamps to create your own sentiment either punny or in another language, use sentiment stamps that include a sentiment in another language- the possibilities are endless!
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 6:00 PM EST ON Friday, May 18th (the time of the next VSN Mini Challenge!).
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, JUN12VSNMINI2 , when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
What a terrific challenge Tami! I look forward to playing in your challenge later - have to go finish dinner at the moment (I missed Friday supper with hubby last week when I was hostessing - he requested the honor of my presence tonight - sorry! I hope you get a good turnout!)
Cool card, Tami - love this challenge! Travel is amazing. What has been your most favorite memory?
Thanks Ky- hope you can play along!
I absolutely LOVE traveling- let's see- I think I'll come with one from each trip.
Honduras- was the time spent in this little village where they had NOTHING and were so happy and at peace- reminded me of what was important. Somewhere I have a scrapbook page of that memory- need to find that scrapbook and take a pic of it.
Greece- 2003- This trip ended up being about confirming my faith and just that experience of seeing what Paul saw and knowing that I was walking where Paul walked. The historical side of things came out (I love history)
Greece-2005- This was the trip right after a hard breakup and weight loss- this trip ended up reaffirming my love for the people of Greece and knowing that God wasn't done with me there. It became about the people at that time.
Greece 2006- this was a 2 1/2 week trip by myself (the others had been with groups). This trip- was the experience of a lifetime. I literally laughed and cried daily. I had so many different experiences. My goal for this trip was an English camp for teens (way out of my comfort zone) and the highlight was our trip to the beach when they applied what they were learning and had fun with it (and then they also taught me things)
Romania 2007- this was a VBS/child based trip. The thing that stood out was on our last day of VBS a young girl brought me a bag with a letter and some things in it. It had a small doll along with several other things. One of our translators opened the letter and read it for me- it was heart wrenching- and the realization that she was giving me her favorite possessions.(oh, and this one took us 4 days to get there due to travel issues)
Romania 2008- another VBS based trip- this one was different-but it was still an amazing trip- this was the one where we went to a small village and just experienced a variety of things- the biggest impact was watching this small village and a one room schoolhouse.

Very cool challenge theme!!! You certainly are well-traveled!!
My outside-the-U.S. travel is...............
1. Canada....when I was 15 we stayed in my Uncle's cabin on a lake just over the border for a few days.
2. Mexico.....when our kids were tiny we walked over the bridge from El Paso, TX just to buy something and say we went there! LOL
3. Canada....a couple years ago when we were in ND for a business trip we went across the border just to get a geocache so hubby could have an international one! LOL
That's it! Although we have extensively road-tripped INSIDE the lower 48!! ;)
Hi all! It was a really tough week at work for me, now I am on the bleachers at my son's baseball game! I really like your challenge Tami and hope I can play later!
Hmmm...well I'm gonna have to wait to make a card for the challenge....we take off for Denver early tomorrow and I can't take stampy stuff with me to the company apt. Just copics and images. So I'll have to take some travelly images and color!
I've done very little traveling in my 70 years, but about 6 years ago I did get to go to London, Paris and Florence. I was expecting to love Paris the best, but it was Florence that stole my heart. Michelangelo's David, the Uffizi Gallery, Leaning Tower of Pisa, and just the beautiful countryside, delicious food and extremely gracious and welcoming people. I'd love to go back some day!

I've wonderful and scary memories of Greece. In '80, when we arrived, it was the first time I'd seen armed guards at the airport and children begging. But, oh!, the flowers! history, warm greetings of the natives, FOOD!, wine, and the seas as brilliantly blue as their flag. Spanicopeda (sp?) purchased from a street vendor. Toothless grandma in Constitution Square. Islands. I ache for what the Greeks are dealing with now, economically...
Other favorite places: Victoria, B. C., Copenhagen, Bavaria, northern Israel. NEVER Egypt!

What a great challenge! I have done a lot of traveling too. Since retiring we have been to Alaska, Canada, Niagara Falls, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal. And for our 25th wedding anniversary over 20 years ago, we went to Paris! I layed out my "international" stamps and am thinking. I have to do a card that has something to do with all the traveling we have done together! Need to make it a birthday card for DH.
After supper maybe something will come to me. I will be back! Thank you for a great challenge!

Here is We'll always have Paris.
The card took minutes, but took some time on the internet to help me with a inside sentiment that went with the outside of the card. LOL
Thank you Tami. I needed motivation and an idea to get this card done for my DH birthday which is Monday! Whew! Talk about close!

I'm just catching up with this forum and loved reading about the travels others have taken. Reminds me of great places, and ideas for new travels of my own. I think I'm fortunate that I have chosen to travel. A favourite spot from years ago, is the countryside of Guatemala, I always remember a quote by Aldous Huxley describing it as "really too much of a good thing" and a misquote I always thought came from him because it describes the people so well but I guess has been adapted by me to describe the beauty there "as the place where the rainbow gets its colours!" (which I guess is actually just a translation of the Mayan word for Lake Atitlan, one of the most beautiful lakes.) I spent several months, a couple different years travelling through this gorgeous country and into Honduras and Costa Rica. Great memories of wonderful people, beautiful sights and fun adventures.
