FEB10VSNA ~ FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2010 ~ 6 pm EST ~ WHAT IS AN INUKSHUK?
Title: "WHAT IS AN INUKSHUK?"
Hostess: Denise "Resqbarbie"
Keyword: FEB10VSNA
Day/Date: Friday, February 26, 2010
Time: 6:00 PM (EST)
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Welcome to the VSN Olympic Games of 2010! I am honored to be the first challenge tonight! Let's get these games started off with a sketch challenge!
The symbol you have seen everywhere for these Olympics is called an
INUKSHUK (plural inuksuit) which is a stone landmark or cairn built by humans, used by the Inuit, Inupiat, Kalaallit, Yupik, and other peoples of the Arctic region of North America.
The
inukshuk may have been used for navigation, as a point of reference, a marker for hunting grounds, or as a food cache. Inuksuit vary in shape and size, with deep roots in the Inuit culture.
Inuksuit continue to serve as an Inuit cultural symbol. For example, an inuksuk is shown on the flag and Coat of Arms of the Canadian territory of Nunavut, and the flag of Nunatsiavut. They also are increasingly serving as a mainstream Canadian national symbol thanks in part to these 2010 Winter Olympics.
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NKQ97rOwBH0&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NKQ97rOwBH0&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
This is a picture of the Inusuk that was the inspiration for the Olympic Symbol. It sits on top of Whistler Mountain.

Great challenge Denise.
Now you need to take one sip of your drink for every card in your gallery.

This is a very meaningful challenge to kick off the SCS Olympic games. I am trying to work and think about my sketch card. Thanks!

Thanks for a great challenge, and a challenge it was. I moved the last rectangle over the strip to make it work for me.

YEAH! The snow missed us this time! I'm down in the DC area. I was really really going to be mad if it snowed, even though they were only calling for 3 inches! We have so much damage to our shrubs from the 2 earlier storms!

Thanks for a great challenge and the cultural information. That is always my favorite thing about the Olympic Games, learning about the host nation and it's people. Love it!!

This might sound like a funny question, but can we make more than one card for a single challenge? I know some people combine multiple challenges in a single card, but if you really like a particular challenge can you post more than one card for it?
