Title: "Scratch & Sniff Birthday Treat"
Hostess: Jen (JenniferO)
Keyword: AUG09VSNSNA1
Day/Date: Saturday, August 1, 2009
Time: 5PM (EDT)

I have so many birthdays during the summer months, including my own. And it is always handy to have a nice treat to give as a simple gift.

My challenge to you is to make a simple birthday treat to give and you must use the Scratch N Sniff technique to make it sweet!

You can make a card, treat bag, gift bag, etc. using the Scratch N Sniff technique on some part of it. Have fun making a sweet treat for someone else!

(tutorial for the Scratch N Sniff technique can be found in the resource section of SCS)

UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EDT ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 2nd
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword (AUG09VSNSNA1) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in the chat thread just in case the gallery is being testy.

I'm smelling some snickerdoodles, love cinnamon!

princessrandi82 08-01-2009 01:03 PM

I love using this technique! I did it for one of my technique classes and have about 8 scents already made up.... now which one to use? ... :)

rsalamon 08-01-2009 01:03 PM

ooh yum! I've never heard of this before. Off to the kitchen ;)

Wish this was Smella-VSN.

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:07 PM

I will be fixing the link to the technique.

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:12 PM

Link is fixed.

Thanks Robyn!

You're welcome Ryann. Have fun cooking and I'll be waiting to see your plating and presentation.

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:18 PM

Diane and Randi, glad to see you could make it. Looking forward to seeing your dish for this challenge.

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:19 PM

The lights are so bright here on stage that I can't see if anyone else has dropped by. Anyone there?

crafterthoughts 08-01-2009 01:21 PM

this was a new technique for me too!! now my craft room is a bowl of cherries :)

crafterthoughts 08-01-2009 01:21 PM

Hi Robyn!!

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:22 PM

Hi Stephanie. Glad to see you showing support for your fellow Chef.

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:24 PM

Kind of quiet, was the traffic bad on your way into Kitchen Stadium?

crafterthoughts 08-01-2009 01:25 PM

Wonder what scents will fill up the kitchen this afternoon? I smell cherry so far!

diane617 08-01-2009 01:27 PM

maybe it's early on or first sunny day of the week and people are out playing, but they have to eat sometime!

HeartHugsDesigns 08-01-2009 01:28 PM

Hello! Is this where the party is?

rsalamon 08-01-2009 01:28 PM

I don't have Kool-Aide so I used some Crystal Light :) It doesn't really smell though...

Hey Ash!

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:28 PM

I have found that there is no good day or time for challenges. Everyone has so much on their plates that they make it or not. That's alright...they really can play whenever they have the time.

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:29 PM

Ashley, you found us. Welcome

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:30 PM

Ryann. I don't do Kool Aid or anything that is diet so I found a friend that had one of those single servings for the water bottles. Whatever you use, you at least get the idea of how to do it, even if the smell isn't as strong.

HeartHugsDesigns 08-01-2009 01:30 PM

Hi Ryann, hi Robyn!

I only have raspberry iced tea Crystal Light. Maybe I'll wait until tomorrow when I go to Target. This sounds like fun! I'll bet my son's friends would love to get a card that smells good!

stampingwriter 08-01-2009 01:32 PM

Hi everyone!
Wonder if this technique would work with instant hot chocolate mix -- I do love the smell of chocolate.

crafterthoughts 08-01-2009 01:32 PM

Hi Ashley!

HeartHugsDesigns 08-01-2009 01:32 PM

hi Sandy!

Robyn O 08-01-2009 01:32 PM

Randi, do you have any suggestions for Ashley and Ryann as to what is the best to use to get a stronger scent?

HeartHugsDesigns 08-01-2009 01:33 PM

hi Stephanie!

crafterthoughts 08-01-2009 01:33 PM

I think the tutorial says you can use hot choc mix :) smellerific!!

diane617 08-01-2009 01:35 PM

has anyone tried lemon or orange peel? I have some in my spice cupboard, I'll give it a try.

HeartHugsDesigns 08-01-2009 01:36 PM

Hey Robyn, can we get a link to the gallery for this challenge please?

crafterthoughts 08-01-2009 01:38 PM

HeartHugsDesigns 08-01-2009 01:43 PM

Ohh, I have lemonade mix but I think it has sugar in it. I guess that would either burn or attract ants?
