Just poppin' in to say I like Aarti and Tom. It seems as though some of Aarti's food hasn't turned out as well lately, though. I agree that Indian cooking would fill a niche they haven't addressed.

Every year they make a big deal about the person's culinary point of view. You'd think the new recruits would have a better handle on what they'd like their hoped for show to focus on.

Even though I think Aarti is doing well enough and they like her enough, I'm concerned by the statement the judges made about having to have a support staff on hand at her tapings to assure her that she's good enough to have her own show. I think they may think she will be very high maintenance and they don't like that kind of person. I hope she can get over whatever her qualms are so she can make it to the end.

I like Herb but I'm thinking that he may have changed directions too late in the game to still be in contention. Besides, Food Network already has some latino cooking shows. My prediction: Aria will go home next, then Herb and Tom and Aarti will be the final two with Aarti winning. What order do you all think it will be?
I pretty much agree with your entire post. I personally don't like Indian flavors so if Aarti winsI won't be watching, but at least she doesn't annoy me like Aria.

Susan, I completely agree with you. I was sad that Brad went home too but wished that he had his angle all figured out before then. They seem to want you to have an idea about where you would want to go with a show and I can't blame them for that. I think the problem that he couldn't seem to overcome, and it's a biggie, is that he would freeze up and get stiff as soon as the camera went on. (I do that too!)

I really wish that Aarti hadn't said that, I think that may sabotage her if they think she might be a high maintenace sort.

Who do you all like to watch now? I love Guy Fieri, Giada (my favorite), Ellie Krieger, and the Neely's.

Not surprised or sad about tonight's result.
I thought it was so cool that the contestants stayed at the Flatotel in NYC. That is where we stayed a few months ago and loved it. It's directly across the street from Bobby Flay's Bar Americain. It made me so homesick.

I <3 Bar Americain!!! It made me homesick too!

I agree with you.

And I'm starting to change my mind a bit about who I really would enjoy watching on the food network.

I just finished watching last night's episode on demand. I'm not surprised who went home.

I think Aarti has the talent but Tom has the personality to win. Herb is starting to show some zip. I'm really looking forward to next week's show...

Oh, how could I forget about Bobby Flay and Alton Brown? I love both of them.

On the three that are left I would be happy with any of them winning. I love Aarti's and Herb's sweet personalities but not Indian or Cuban foods. I would probably try a lot of the things Tom makes (not a bacon steak though) but I can see your point. They would need to shine him up a little!

That's what's changing my mind! I think Tom is so fun and interesting that I would watch him just to see his show and because he makes me laugh. That's what I love about Alton Brown.

I couldn't watch a show long term about Indian food just because I don't eat it that often. And truth be told, the way she said Aaaaahhhhttttiii Paaaahhhtttty is starting to get on my nerves

But it's getting good now that we are down to the wire!

I love Iron Chef too. I used to love the Two Fat Ladies, but they don't show that anymore. That was a great show and hilarious!

I wish too that they'd clean Tom up a bit... that hair is really starting to make me crazy!

I have to say, the person who went home last night deserved to after their performance. That just was NOT Iron Chef-quality cooking. But WHAT an entertaining episode!

Was anyone else annoyed by Alton Brown's pronounciation of Aarti? I think he thought her name was R.T. the way he would say her name! LOL

I'm SO glad Aria went home last night. I really never liked her. Something about her was so annoying. And that Iron Chef menu she made was completely pitful. Did any of you watch Next Food Network Star After Party? Aria had a chance to redeem herself with the bacon challenge. She made a mashed potato/bacon donut fried in bacon fat then dipped in chocolate.

I rarely eat Indian food because there are a couple of spices (cardamom and cilantro) that I don't care for, but I actually think I would watch Aarti's show anyway. May make me re-think trying to make it myself that way I can control which ingredients I use. I might check out Tom's show - depends on what the theme is. "Big Flavor" doesn't tell me much. Even though I like Herb, I'm not sure a Cuban show would be one I would watch. Now if it was health based like taking comfort foods and changing the recipe to make them healthier (like Juan Carlos Cruz had a while back) I would watch that.

I can't wait until next week to see thier pilot shows.

Per Joanne's question of which Food Network shows I watch now: I do like Melissa D'Arabian's show especially since they changed her kitchen (I would LOVE that kitchen). I've made several of her recipes and they've all been good. I've set that show to tivo every week. Other shows I watch if I'm sitting down to watch tv anyway but don't necessarily make a point to tune into are: Challenge - I like the cakes they come up with, Throwdown with Bobby Flay, Rachel Ray 30 Minute Meals, Kid in a Candy Store - I do like Adam Gertler even if the show is only mildy interesting and Diners DriveIns and Dives - Guy is entertaining. I rarely am up late enough to watch Iron Chef, but my hubby likes the Chairman because he used to be a karate movie star (really... I looked it up to make sure) and he is so animated when he does the "Allez Cuisine". I liked the idea of the Healthy Meals show but I didn't like the host, Ellie Kriger. Something about her is so plastic.

I was ready to see Aria go. She didn't bring anything to Food Network that would make me watch her. I love Herb just because!

I record Melissa's show when it is on, Iron Chef, Diners, but I can't stand Rachel Ray or the Nellys. I did like Ellie and have her cookbook. I liked a lot of her recipes since she doesn't use fake anything in her cooking and the cookbook has some great tips in it.

I was happy to see Aarti win, she was a favorite of mine from the beginning. I liked Tom and Herb a lot too and would have been just as happy if one of them took it. I actually liked Tom's food the best out of these three. I want to try that chicken and mushroom dish he made for the finale, that looked awesome.
What did you all think of the results?

She was just too good all along not to win so I think they did a great job. I was pulling for Tom because I think I would have watched his show more.

Herb really surprised me in the pilot - that was the first time that I really saw him as charming and fun. Too bad that didn't happen until the end.

They really had a tough decision!

I thought it was a really hard decision - all the pilots were good. I have always liked Aarti, so I'm really happy she won! Her food has been the most consistent (judges liked hers the most), so I'm thinking she deserved to win. I will watch her show! I need something different - so sick of the same old chicken and pasta!

I finally could watch the last 2 weeks shows last night (we were on vacay) and am so happy with the outcome. She has such a tv personality and has pretty much all along. She seems to have conquered, at least onscreen, her insecurities.

Speaking of Next Food Network Stars - Did Big Daddy fall off the radar? Never watched his show or liked him particularly, but noticed his picture was not on the Wall of Fame pics and when I tried to locate his show on our dvr, couldn't.

lalalalalalalalalalalaaaa *finger stuffed in ears so I don't have to hear about Val's vacay*

I thought I overheard a commercial with Aarti the other day and a mention that her new show would be on at noon this coming Sunday. Anyone else hear that?

What a gorgeous photo, Valerie! Wow!

I just saw Big Daddy's show a couple week's ago. Hope they renew him for another year. It seems I see more of the runner up from that year's Next Food Network Star, Adam Gertler. I like him a lot too.

Just watched it! She did a fabulous job! I am bummed though, that it doesn't appear that she's wearing the stud in her nose! As a fellow nose-pierced-sister, that's one of the things I loved about her!

I was pulling for Aarti right from the start so I'm thrilled she won. I just watched her first episode of "Aarti Party" today and it was good. She's such a natural. I'm even going to try those Sloppy Bombay Joes she made.

I think Aarti is doing a fabulous job!! She really is a natural at this. I missed most of today's show, I'll have to find out if they will be showing it again. Does anyone know?
12 on a Sunday is just not a good time for me, I'll have to set it to record from now on.

Joanne, I set that show, and $10 Dinners with Melissa D'Arabian to record automatically. I'm rarely sitting down to watch tv in the middle of the day.

I did make the recipe from last week, the Sloppy Bombay Joes and, although I'm generally not a big fan of sloppy joes in general (not crazy about the "sloppy" part), they were pretty good. I will watch this week's show later and most likely try one of those recipes as well. I went to the natural foods store this past week and stocked up on Indian spices so I will be ready for anything she prepares.

Thanks, Susan.
I went spice shopping too because of that show! I couldn't believe the price of cardamom, it was like $10 for a little jar on sale. I'll shop around for that one!
Surprisingly there were recipes of hers that I would like to try, I didn't think that was going to happen. It was a good idea to start the shows with nothing too terribly exotic, so it doesn't scare everyone away.

Joanne, my local natural foods store sells spices in bulk. I bought just a little bit of each spice Aarti mentioned. All together it cost me under $2 for five different things. I'm sure living in a big city like you do, you have a natural foods store that has the same offerings. You can check out the Frontier Herbs website and check out their store locator for someplace near you that sells herbs and spices in bulk. It's the only way to get them. Not only does it cost a lot less, but you know everything is fresh because it hasn't been bottled and sitting on a shelf for who knows how long, and you can get just what you need. I haven't bought jarred spices/herbs in over 10 years.

Thanks, Susan, I'll look in one of our whole food/Nature stores. We have so many of them out here but I never thought to check there thinking it would even be more expensive.
Thanks again!

It looks like they gave Tom Pizzica a show too! It's called Outrageous Food and comes on in November.

Just saw the ad for the new Tom Pizzica show the other day. I told my hubby about it and he said, "tape it". He liked that guy best of the final three. I looked online to see if they had offered Herb Mesa a show too but I read that he accepted a position with some big firm as Director of Consulting for restaurants so I guess he will be pretty busy.
