Oh man. It's already an emotional season!
What a cliff hanger ending! I hope he's okay

I hope he is ok too! Especially after getting his good news right before they left! Too bad about the Cornelia Marie's Captain. I hope he gets better.

I was counting down the days til the new season started. I was so excited to see Phil back on the boat, only to be let down with his departure. Kinda scary. I really hope Keith is OK.

Who's your favorite Captain/crew member? Cpt Phil, but Cpt Jonathan is a REAL close second. Edgar is my favorite crew member.
Who's your least favorite Captain/crew member? Cpt Sig-his arrogance is so off-putting. Matt is my least favorite crew member.
Favorite episode? Season 1, when greenhorn Kevin Davis went overboard. Cpt Robert Strong was so calm and deliberate is guiding the crew to rescue Kevin. Amazing!
Favorite soundbite? Cpt Phil, "Now you know why lions eat their young!"

I'm a little surprised that they didn't have Keith go get a cat scan or something to be safe... and I hope that they were checking on him while he was sleeping and didn't just let him sleep the straight 8 hours.

What an emotional ending. I can't imagine the fear having a ship go down so far from anything... I mean a 7 hour flight from the Coast Gaurd base.. And who ever heard of a BLACK life raft???

My DVR cut off at the very end though. I missed Mike's comments during the closing credits. Were there any survivors?

I love this show. I catch it during the day and sometimes can't figure out which one is new or not.

They did find one man that didn't make it and they showed the Coast Guard pulling his body (blurred for TV) onto the helo. It was really sad. They didn't show them finding any survivors.

I, too, thought the black life raft was a little weird. Looks like you would want the standard caution orange or yellow.

Yeah, the black life raft was really odd. What a sad way to end that episode. And honestly, since it was 8+ hours before anyone could get there, do they really think there would be survivors??

I remember reading earlier this year (during Opie season) another boat based out of Dutch Harbor (but not part of the show) went down and if I remember correctly 7 or 8 men were lost.

I wasn't really surprised Keith didn't get any medical treatment. They were hundreds of miles away from anything, and it would cost them time and lots of $$$$ to go somewhere with medical care.

If you're interested, I googled the name of the boat to find out what happened.

Unable to turn its bow into the oncoming seas, the Katmai became trapped in a trough and rolled over sometime after midnight.

It is unclear if the captain was able to issue a mayday call. The Coast Guard said it did not learn the boat was in trouble until its emergency locator beacon which activates automatically when submerged deployed about 1 a.m.

Coast Guard aircraft then faced a marathon journey amid hurricane-force winds and white-out conditions to reach the scene. "It was the most difficult flying in my career, hands down," said helicopter pilot Lt. Douglas Doll.
The article is from the Seattle Times. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...ngboat24m.html

I think this article was written right after it happened, but I clearly heard the mayday call on the show. They played it over and over...though it was faint, due to the boat being so far away from the fleet.

I think if anyone had been able to get in the raft while in a Gumby suit then they would have stood a chance.

Sorry just read the linked article... They did have 4 survivors after 17 hours. wow. I can't even imagine it

I am a bit late in making a response to this, but I love the show and have enjoyed it so far. These guys work very hard in a very dangerous environment and it is interesting to watch.

This weekend I was visiting friends and I saw the first shows that they did with someone else narrating other than Mike Rowe. They were not as dark and rather differnt.

WHAT HAPPENED TO LYNN ON THE STACK?!? I thought Capt. Keith was very irresponsible taking that many pots out when he KNEW the forecast. Wonder why he's so desperate this year? He's been acting a little goofy since the whack on the head.
SOOOOO glad to see Capt Phil back. Hope he stays for the long haul (pun intended )

WHO KNEW?!? Sig DOES have a heart! His arrogance has alway put me off, but I have to say, I was greatly impressed with his words and actions regarding Jake's family tragedy.

that was really sad last night. My heart broke for Jake. I too am impressed with Sig's actions... he does have a heart... I especially liked that he told Jake he still had a job to come back to.

I have to start watching more - just saw a couple of the shows last year. We saw a lot of the canneries in Alaska where they unload. I don't know how these guys do it!

Just found this thread.

I LOVE this show!!!!

I was a tad disappointed in the finale.

Guess they had to "fill" the program.

I am glad ALL of the ones we cared about were okay and so were they guys they rescued but I would have rather seen more of "our" guys on the last show even if they were just talking and celebrating coming home!

The previews really built up these parts.

We will have to make sure and start a thread for next season. At least I have 2/3 more weeks of Ice Road Truckers to watch.
