Need help scoring. . .
I've seen cards that use scoring as a border and I wanted to try that but I don't really know how. . . I have a scoring tool but not a huge board like a scor-pal or anything.

I don't think you really need a big score board - I have one that's just the size of a regular sheet of paper. You do need something with a groove in it, though - do you have a paper cutter?

Like Sabrina says, you do need something with a groove in it, like paper cutters have.
Since you want the score line to "bump" out on the front side of your paper, just lightly pencil the border lines on the back of your paper, then score along those lines. Although you can score using the groove on a paper trimmer, I would highly recommend the Martha Stewart score board. It sells for about $20 at Michaels, but you can usually find a coupon and get it for 40% to 50% off. It is very handy not only for scoring cards, but making all kinds of 3-d items like little boxes, and it comes with a great little template to make your own envelopes lickety-split! It's the best $10 I've spent in a long time. I use it constantly now that I have it. |
Thanks guys! I think I'll try using my cricut score board, because the cutter part lifts completely out of the way, leaving plenty of room for scoring

You can use a stylus, ruler and mouse pad to do it too? It's a little less perfect, but works.

SCORING FOR DUMMIES
That is what I am ............. LOL I have been making some very simple cards but would like to add some scoring as a final touch. How do I go about scoring in just the right places ?? I love the look of broken score lines but am befuddled.
thanks in advance!! |
Practice, practice practice, is all I can say. And like Bugga says, lightly pencil the lines on the back. But remember that you won't be able to erase the lines because they'll be in the groove. So maybe just put tiny light dots in each corner instead.

I started with a Scor-It mini and was so pleased with it that I bought the full size version even though I don't scrap so the 12" seems a bit decadant somehow. |
