extended waterfall cards
I'd like to know how to make a calendar using the waterfall technique. Each "fall" would have one month on it. Any ideas for making that extension?

I'd have to try a test, but I know the principle. The hardest thing would be getting a strip of card long enough. What size are you thinking of making each calendar square? I'm away from home for the day, but if there are no other responses, I'll try this evening. The theory is that your strip needs to be the same width as your decorative squares.
Say the squares are 1.5", and you have each one extending .5" below the previous one, then the the decorated part of the strip needs to be 1.5" for the first square + 11 X .5, so 7" long. The full length of the strip would need to be about 15". And if your squares are bigger, it would need to be correspondingly longer. |
Thanks, Sabrina. Each month measures 1.75 x 1.5.

Right now I'm falling asleep on the train, so by the time I get home, it may end up being tomorrow afternoon before I can make a test piece. Thanks for the measurements, that helps.

Okay - it's doable, but it has a couple of limitations. Because of the length of the waterfall, it may fall forward slightly if it's hanging on a wall - it would work great flat on a desktop. But then you have the problem of the "pull" part getting longer each month. Maybe try a mock-up and see if you want to go ahead putting a lot of work into it.I'll attach a few photos which show measurements.
The orange band across is lined up on the BACK of the December panel, so where you see December written is flush with the orange band. If you need to mat your panels, that will change the measurements, this is using 1 3/4" wide x 1 1/2" high. |
Thank you for your good help. As I see it your directions read "15 1/2 inches long. Score at 1 1/2 inches then every 1/2 inch" After that I can't read the measurements.
I certainly appreciate your work. |
Every half inch up to seven inches. Sorry!

December sticks onto the only piece (at the end of the strip) that is scored at 1 1/2". After that, you're just sticking the top 1/2" of each month onto the scored section, so that they overlap.

Sure appreciate it.
