DIY Pearl Pins
 

I�m so happy to be able to show you something that�s been on my mind for a while. The other day I went to a craft store and I wanted to buy some pearl pins. In the end I didn�t buy them because of the sole thought that someone could pinch their finger with an embelishment... Uh oh, no sir.

So I remembered something, I made jewelry in my past life (meaning 7 years ago or so). I have a big box of pearls, crystals and stones... And so I had the idea of making them myself, using earring pins!

This is what I used to make these pins:
- Earring pins
- Beads
- Hot glue gun



So, first of all, arrange the stones you'll be using in the pin, because you have to glue them fast. You will only need a tiny drop of glue for each stone. Apply the glue and run the pearl immediately to its place. Repeat it for the crystal. If when applying the glue there is any excess, clean right away, don't wait until it's dry (it worked better for me that way).




And that's about it... It's sooo easy I couldn't resist making a BUNCH of them! Earring pins don't have a sharp end and you can find them in a variety of colors, materials, lengths... And there's also an infinite variety of beads you could use. So, why not making personalized embellishments?

These are actually called head pins and you can get them with decorative heads on them as well as ball head and eye head. They are used for earrings but also many other jewelry applications. You can get them at any jewelry supply even walmart as they are a basic but if you are looking online try Artbeads.com. They are my fave with great customer service and frequent sales. In fact, head pins are on sale right now! There are a variety of finishes and the quality varies depending on what they are made of. I'd suggest silver plated wire. Or base metal but the silver plate are pretty cheap. You can even make them if you want a loop at the top. Just use jewelry pliers (many people own them for curling petals on handmade flowers) to twist a loop at the top and cut it as long as you want. Just about every online bead store has a tutorial section and will show you how to do it. Or just google 'jewelry simple loop'.

Thank you, Gracie! I've seen the pins on projects before and they look beautiful; but, like you, I was put off by the thought of piercing a finger (mine or the recipient's)! I just so happen to have these things in my craft stash, so YAY! Can't wait to give this a try!
