DIY Blending Foams

Lets face it, distressing can be expensive! So to help combat the cost I cut out my own blending foams. I cut out 1 3/4" x 1 1/4" rectangles of fabric foam. And use just like you would the Inkssentials ones but for a fraction of the cost.

1. Cut out 4" x 36" strip of fabric foam
2. Cut that strip into two 1 3/4 x 36"
3. Cut those strips into 5 3/4" strips so they are more manageable
4. Line up strips and cut 1 1/4" x 1 3/4" rectangles
5. Viola! your done.

Looked for this at Joanns. They didn't have it and didn't know what it was.

Is this what they call "headliner" foam - that is used to redo the inside roofs of cars?

I found a website that sells headliner foam in different thicknesses, including 3/16, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2. It looks like the right stuff. Here's a link that shows a picture of it. I used the picture of the 1/2" stuff because it had the best picture.

TFS. Was thinking of investing in a whole lot of the "real" thing, but with this it will cost me much less. Can't thank you enough...

Yep it is called Headliner Foam that can be used for cars and such. You can find it in the upholstery section of the fabric store. I found it at JoAnn's. I usually look in the remnants section first for a better deal.

Thank you, Jolayne, for sharing this information. I use foam pads quite a bit and I've been looking for a long time for a product just like Headliner Foam so I could make my own pads and save some bucks.
