Decorative Hat Pins Next Steps Tutorial

4 Attachment(s)
I''ve previously covered the basics of Creating Hat Pins, and now I would now to cover a few more techniques to making your own decorative Hat Pin embellishments, although these are still so very easy to make.

A quick reprise of the basics of hat pin creation (more details on my blog):- gather your materials plus clear glue, a toothpick, an egg cup and a small piece of waxed paper. Dab small dots of glue to the pin and thread on your beads. Leave to dry.

To make more detailed Hat Pins, all you need to do is widen the variety of materials used, and then think about texture, colour and composition in the making of your Hat Pins (see below)

thx for sharing, we recently had a hat pin swap in our paper guild grp and received some lovely designs.

My Tip....If using on a card...I apply a small dab of glue to point and add a seed bead so no one will get stuck.

I slide on a small plastic end like those you can use on earring wires- then the pin is removable if they choose to utilize it -

Where is te best place to purchase the hat pins that you want to further decorate?

TeresaLynn 04-25-2012 08:50 AM

there are several options depending on the length of pin you want. You can use corsage pins, JoAnn's has extra long corsage pins or hat pins Darice carries a 6" hat pin with the protective end but they are pricey

Thank you. I have been wanting to try these beautiful items. I have some jewelry making supplies and can't wait!

Thanks for all your lovely comments, and TeresaLyn thank you for sharing pictures of your beautiful pins. If I'm using pins on a card then I either tuck the sharp point behind an embellishment, use a seed bead or silicon earing stopper as described above. If you have a look in my gallery, you'll see my pins in situ on cards.

Glad this has been of use, I have to admit I am a little hat pin obsessed at the moment!

subbing

Dips 05-08-2012 11:19 AM

Excuse my ignorance, Jeanne, but I don't know what subbing means, could you explain? MTIA

Sure, I want to be informed on any updates to this thread, so just subbing (subscribing) will alert me by email that someone has made an additional comment. Your adding a response has put you in the same position. HTH
