TLC770 ~ Stretch Your Stencils: Tone on Tone ~ (11/25/2019}
My goodness, it's hard to believe that it's almost the end of November already. I have a nice easy challenge for you today - tone on tone stencilling.
For this you will require your stencil of choice, some coloured cardstock and some ink in a shade slightly darker than your card. With so many inks and shades of cardstock out there I'm not even going to try to make suggestions on names of colours. But the key thing is that your ink and the cardstock are the same colour, but the ink is a darker shade.
I found a great short video for those of you who like videos.
Here are a few sample pieces I made as examples: brushed corduroy distress on kraft, pumice stone distress on grey, and for a very subtle effect, cracked pistachio DOX on a sort of mint.
If you don't have any stencils - you can use the negative of a die-cut or a punch. A single shape won't have the same impact as a whole background, but you can still try the technique. Or maybe you have a trellis or a lattice die - you could cut that and use it as your stencil so long as you apply the ink carefully.
:arrow: Remember to use the keyword TLC770 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .
If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
I wanted to combine the CAS Tag challenge with the tone on tone stencil challenge today. I was stumped at first as to what to put on my stenciled BG but managed a retro look which I hope is Clean and Simple enough with it's bold images. Thanks.
