Default TLC759 ~ Coloring Mediums ~ {9/9/19}

Good morning, Technique Lovers!

Today you will challenge yourself with a COLORING MEDIUM!
There are many ways to color an image, and I would like you to choose the one that makes you the MOST uncomfortable!

Chalks or pastels, watercolor, alcohol markers, pencils, paint, crayons, you have seen them all -- but what one do you shy away from the most?

For me, it's Copic markers. I have oodles of them (but of course, not enough ), but it's hard work for me to color an image I am happy with. I watch videos, and those Copic masters make it look so easy. I have tried light to dark, dark to light, Copic classes, you name it. And hair or individual fur flicks? Um, no. Watercolor is SO much easier for me to know where the shading goes. Which is weird, since the idea is very much the same.

So today, my sample shows a little deer that I worked on for a long time with Copic markers. I am happy with how she turned out. But getting there is a process.

Let us know in your description what coloring medium brings your heart rate up, but HAVE FUN! (Can the two be friends? )

My sample: SUCH A DEER

Markers and a blender pen - a real challenge, yep. But fun. Confirmed me in my opinion that I could throw at least half my markers out and never miss them.
Had pilling problems with both the lighter watercolour paper and the really good heavy one I use for the coral border. I had to start the seahorse all over again...

I used water color and colored pencils as secondary coloring on my project today. I drew a chicken in my journaling bible. I then used scraps of "junk" gel prints to do extreme paper piecing to color my chicken. Paper pieced Chicken by MariLynn - at Splitcoaststampers

Judy, this challenge terrified me so much that I used my 2 most feared coloring mediums today - YIKES! I am still not sure what got into me, but it is raining outside so maybe that helped. Thank you for the great challenge today!

Thanks, Judy! I tried some no line style coloring, stamping first in a light ink color.

I loved this challenge, Judy. I learned a lot and had fun, too! Could have chosen many other mediums as well, as coloring is not my forte.

Thanks for the inspiration - I used my new Dina Wakley scribble sticks to color the zombie on my scrapbook journaling page:

Judy, I find pencil coloring takes me back to my youth, but getting the right amount of shading is challenging for me. Thanks for getting me to practice more!

I did a very loose coloring job. Thankfully, I think it goes well with this stamp set!

I made two cards for this challenge as there were two colouring techniques I wanted to use.
My Chameleon pen card HERE

I do not really like these pens and am disappointed in them. I think I need to practice more but to do that means using up lots of ink.

For the first time I tried using my oil pastels ( artist quality) to colour in an image and I like the result but it is only good for an image I will cut out as the rubbing in of the medium causing the colour to come outside of the lines. my oil pastel card is HERE

I've been Practising using chalk pastels. This card is in the retiform technique, coloring with SU chalk pastels applied with sponges.

I chose to color an image with Copic markers to meet the challenge. My other mediums were: chalk ink edge distressing, ink stamping, and Wink of Stella-Clear (glitter pen) for the berries and the yellow bloom.

Here is my card: Hugs for a Friend!

Here's a slightly sassy card for this challenge. Coloured with Copic markers and used Distress Inks for the background clear EP resist. This chick wobbles!

He's so sweet looking.  We have an empty lot next to us right here in town and it's not unusual to have 15 or more deer in it early in the mornings. We have a neighborhood deer that people feed and she has a necklace on her so we all know which one she is. Great job on the coloring and I love copic markers also.  My stuff is all in storage right now and I hope to get it out and start working again soon.
