Default TLC752 ~ Background Interest ~ {07/22/2019}

Happy Monday to you all!

I thought I had something else lined up and ready to go for today - a background technique, in fact. I have had two samples sitting in my background box for a while. But when I tried making another one for a step-out photo tutorial, it didn't turn out as well, so I parked it for the time being and I have another challenge for you today.

We are going to be adding some interest to our die-cuts (or punched shapes) by stamping on them with background stamps. Think text, music, all-over patterns and so on. Think about the scale of the stamp compared to whatever die-cuts you're going to use. You can stamp in colour or neutrals on white card. You can stamp in colour or tone-on-tone on coloured die-cuts...follow your fancy. I found it easier on the whole to stamp first and die-cut second, but whatever works for you is fine.

In my examples, the first one is actually an old SU wheel (Very Vintage) stamped in Archival Coffee on white card before die-cutting.

I always loved the Prima flowers with text and music on them, which inspired my to use text on some of my flowers in the second sample. I should probably have chosen a smaller text stamp, but originally I had die-cut some larger flowers, and the little orange ones were cut from the leftover scraps. I used a detailed IO backgrounder (Paisley Crystal) on the red flowers, and Greenery on some green card for the leaves. All these were stamped in Versafine Clair Morning Mist, so that they'd be a little bit softer than pure black.
  1. Stamp a background stamp on plain white or plain coloured cardstock - your choice of ink colour, your choice of card colour
  2. Die-cut or punch shapes from this.
  3. Create your card using these die-cuts with added "background interest".
I hope you'll have fun trying this out, and I look forward to seeing your creations. Use the keyword TLC752, and it's always recommended to come back and post a link here. In case of any SCS glitches (or keyword typos) it helps people find your card.

Here's a link to our TLC752 Background Interest gallery

Here are my two samples:

TLC752 Christmas Border

TLC752 Floral Birthday

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

Fun challenge, Sabrina. It sent me scrounging through my seldom used backgrounder stamp collection. Great idea to give added interest to die cuts. Thanks.

In my head I had a grander idea for your challenge, Sabrina, but for now here is my card, Sending Hugs.

Fun challenge Sabrina! Although my stamps are not considered background stamps, they worked great for the interest of my diecut flowers!

Fun challenge - I always forget to use background stamps in that way but it really adds a lot of interest. Here's my card:
