Default TLC666 ~ Watercolor Imprints ~ {11/27/17}

Happy Monday, everybody. I hope all our American friends had a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Today is a quick (well, apart from drying time!) background technique from our tutorials - Watercolor Imprints.

Dina has a great tutorial and lists several options - you can use Distress Oxides or regular distress, water-based markers, watercolours, watercolour powders. And to get the imprint, while her stencil shows a stencil she also suggests background stamps and small objects such as buttons and dies. I did try this last option but wasn't quite happy enough with it to make a card.
Another option I propose for you is that instead of misting with water, you can mist with a shimmer spray, as per my second sample.

For my first sample, I used Twinkling H2Os on watercolour paper, and a TCW stencil.
The second one was my attempt at using distress oxides and dies/buttons. It didn't work out that well, so I added a little more DOX, misted it with a silver shimmer mist and left French Flair sitting on it for a few hours.

I look forward to seeing what you create today using Dina's Watercolour Imprints tutorial.

Here's a link to our TLC666 Watercolor Imprints gallery.

Please also choose the Technique Spotlight gallery when you are uploading - this helps create a library of future inspiration. Choose Technique Spotlight, and then Watercolor Imprints from the second dropdown menu.

Here are my samples: TLC666 Deck The Tree
TLC666 Thanks With Flair

Remember to use the keyword TLC666 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

I'm not very good at water coloring, but I can handle this water color technique. Here's my card:

Here's mine. I had trouble getting mine to show up even drying overnight. So I used versamark to make it show. I used a heavy watercolor paper. I wanted to at least post this and not quit the challenge. Hope the challenge police don't take me away......

Hmmm, I must be doing something wrong. I've tried with both a background stamp and a stencil using distress oxide inks but am not getting anything to show up. I'll keep trying but wondered if you have any suggestions.

I think that the colour needs to be sponged on well enough so that when you spritz it with water, it doesn't get too diluted, and there's enough colour in suspension to get displaced by the stencil/stamp. Obviously my H2Os were wet to start with, for my ink panel I gave it a pretty good spritzing with the shimmer spray. Personally I have had huge struggles with the water stamping technique, and have pretty much given up on it unless a challenge specifically calls for it, so I do empathize with you.

Such a fun technique! The hardest part IS waiting for it to dry...I need to make more backgrounds in other colors!

Here is my card: Dragonflies on Watercolor Imprint.

Giving big thanks to smadson (Sharon), because I CASE'd her lovely card! (see post #19)
