Squirrel TLC663 - Stone Cold Twisted - {11/6/17}

JAILBREAK!

I have broken into the TLC challenge today (with Judy's permission) and I have a fun and addicting technique for you today - that is a TWIST on a very classic technique - Polished Stone.

In the olden days, before most of you were born - the Polished Stone Technique required a metallic, pigment reinker.

So today's technique challenge is an update that dries much faster and without a heat gun or sealer. Here's how you do it:

  • Wet two or three cottonballs with rubbing alcohol
  • Add drops of reinker (I used Fresh Fig and Pumpkin Pie for my sample)
  • Add drops of Wink of Stella
  • Pounce onto glossy cardstock to get a stone/granite look with shimmer
In the olden days - the metallic pigment ink had to be heat set - the wonderful thing about adding shimmer with WOS is that it dries right away and you can make multiples quickly!

If you don't have wink of stella, try Smooch Spritz, Perfect Pearls - anything with shimmer!

And I did this card so that we can all remember that Thanksgiving comes before Christmas, so bonus points if you card is fall themed!

Link to this challenge gallery is here.

Enjoy - I can't wait to see what you do!

I did a card tonight but I am having a hard time showing any sparkle in my photos...I'll see what happens tomorrow in brighter light.

Lydia, I am glad you had a jail break and gave us a new twist on the Polished Stone Technique as I have been thinking about using the original technique on a card. Your twist made it easier and faster.

Here is my card.

The UK must have been on a different curve for this technique. In the antediluvian days of dial-up internet and no SU presence in the UK (and pre the distress ink era too, so I guess reinkers weren't widespread), the only Polished Stone technique I learnt used alcohol inks and the metallic mixatives, so there was no significant drying time or heat setting in the first place. I'll be interested to try it with regular reinkers...and a glitter pen!

Mine is done. I don't have time to add it and the details until I get home at lunch. In the mean time, I'm sharing my desk after my early morning challenge card. It was all cleaned up last night. I totally blame Lydia!

Another fun challenge that took me back 20 years to a technique I tried then promptly forgot about - Thanks so much, Lydia for the new easier twist! - I'm gonna have to try this in another color only because after I loaded this in my gallery I realized every card I've made in the past few weeks has been in the pink / purple vein - I must break out of my rut LOL - In the meantime here is my card: RockSolid Wish

I assumed I was to use alcohol reinkers until I saw Linda's card! Gorgeous, and then I re-read the first post and saw Lydia used sU reinkers! So I'm going to do more now instead of working with the two I already did! Be back later!
