Default TLC632 ~ Everything Old is New Again: Black Magic ~ 04/03/2017

Happy Monday, everybody! I hope that everyone who participated in VSN had a blast, but that you still have a little stamping energy left today. I know last week's challenge was one that was easy for some but thank to all those who joined me in what was (for others of us, me included) a bit of a stretching and growing exercise).

~~~~~~~
It's the first Monday of the month, which means it's time for an Everything Old is New Again challenge. I thought that this month we would re-visit the Black Magic technique.
It first featured as TLC #184 in September 2008, and then again as TLC#274 in May 2010 - so feel free to add those keywords if you wish, or just use the new one for today.
Here's a link to the tutorial in Resources: Black Magic
It doesn't matter too much what type of coloured pencil you use. I've used pastel pencils, watercolour pencils (dry, no water) and Polychromos. Just make sure to let the white stamped image dry, or heat-set it.
Your card doesn't have to be black, a dark navy or brown will work perfectly well too. And for extra zing, add those white gel pen details!!
If you would like to achieve a similar look with Copics, I think that that the Chalkboard Marker Magic tutorial will also count for this challenge. No Copics here so I haven't tried it, no tips for you...
Here's a link to our TLC632 Hey Presto, It's Black Magic gallery.
If you haven't used SU stamps and used the relevant gallery for those, please remember to upload your card to the Black Magic gallery in the Technique Spotlight dropdown options!!
Here's my card: TLC632 Dragonfly Dreams
Remember to use the keyword TLC632 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .
If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
For those wishing to try the alternative Copic tutorial I linked, Dina addresses the issue of whether or not it is harmful to your own nibs to colour over embossing in a comment on the tutorial. This is what she writes:
Quote:
I did some reading on this, and apparently it's the pigment of colored embossing powders that may react with the alcohol, rather than the plastic. If you're concerned about coloring over the white embossing, try stamping with white craft or pigment ink and then embossing with clear powder. I used white powder and a light touch while coloring and didn't have any issues with my marker tips.
I love the way the colors pop againt the dark cardstock so I had to have one more go at this technique (actually using black this time) before I move on to other things today.
Sabrina this was HARD to do for me! But I finally got one to work ... it was a lot of fun though!! Will have to practice again soon.
Sabrina, thanks for posting this technique. I'd forgotten about it!! Here's my card, Midnight Rain on Daisies. It's also for this week's CAS challenge.
